Good morning, Craig Peterson here on with jack Heath this morning WGIR and we talked a little bit about Canadian Thanksgiving and the difference in the traditions really between the United States and Canada when it comes to Thanksgiving. Because of course Canada one day, Columbus Day is actually Thanksgiving Day up in Canada. You got to do it before the ground freezes solid. Anyhow, I also talked a little bit about password recovery questions, and why 60% of businesses have been hacked in the last 12 months. So here we go. with Mr. Heath.

Jack Heath
On the tech side, always a big part of our life. We get a tech talk update from Craig Peterson on Mondays. His show airs on our iHeart stations on Saturday. Tech Talk, Craig. Good morning, Craig.

Craig Peterson
Good morning, jack. You know, talking about Columbus Day and all, of course, Canadians are celebrating Thanksgiving. Today, wait a minute. Where's the turkey here? Yeah, exactly. Well, I think he's in the control room.

Jack Heath
That's right.

Justin
No, that's not

Jack Heath
I will not call Justin that. Seriously.

Craig Peterson
That's right it's  Thanksgiving today. It is and you know, Canada calls, their indigenous people. They call them First Nation, because, of course, near as we can tell they were not here originally the men have come across on the land bridge from Siberia. So it's First Nation and I think that's actually a really good term for the indigenous people. Those people that were here when the Europeans first came to settle. So there's something else at your formula.

Jack Heath
So what's the kind of the traditional stuff for Canadian Thanksgiving Day today? What's sort of the nomenclature? I mean, you know, we know what our is sort of is I hate to boil it down. I think we missed the point. It's a great time for family and friends and to give thanks for a lot of things, but a lot of Americans it's a great meal with Turkey stuffing mashed potato and some football games. What is it in Canada?

Craig Peterson
Well, a little bit of the same, although it's the CFL versus the NFL and they're playing for the Grey Cup, as opposed to going to the Super Bowl. But yeah, much the same in Canada as it is here in the states a day where families get together. And it's still the same with turkey and stuffing and all. And in fact, I was going to head up and spend some time with my family. This, this Columbus Day this Thanksgiving Day, but ended up not being able to go this year. But yeah, yeah, it's much the same up there as it is here, including some of the security problems. Which brings us to the point I had this weekend, my newsletter that went out Saturday, which is basically why you should be lying to your bank and other websites that are out there right now. You know, jack, have you ever filled out one of these forms for password? recovery. And it asks you all of these personal questions before. And you know, those types of things are what you really want to avoid answering those questions, because it gets right down to what the FBI has been wanting us about lately. And that is the social engineering that's going on. So there was a great article in Mashable that I put up on my website as well. And I went into more depth, but they were talking about how these password recovery questions like what's your mother's maiden name? What was the first city that you where you attended school, etc, etc? All of those types of questions can be used to really hurt you. Take a look at Sarah Palin. You remember her Of course, more than a decade ago now back in 2008, a 20-year-old college student broke into her yahoo email account caused all kinds of hassles for her, but in many cases, it can cause us to lose things like our retirement. Money investments, even our business accounts. And there's some really bad news about businesses out this weekend, and how they are being hacked. And more than 60% of businesses in the last 12 months have been hacked. And most of them don't even know it. avoid answering those questions with the real answers. I have never answered them correctly. I use a password manager and I make notes. And I'm come up with fake answers for all of those questions. So remember, sometimes lying when it comes to those answers is really going to save you.

Jack Heath
All right. Good stuff, Craig. But Justin was raised to always tell the truth. That's right. That's all right, Craig. Good stuff. Craig, thank you very much.

Craig 4:51
Hey, by the way, thanks, everybody from this last weekend that responded, you know, I am always asking for people to take a couple of minutes and just email me at Craig Peterson calm. And let me know what you think. And also, if you have any questions, and I got a bunch of them, I'll be answering them this week, I promise I'm trying to get to every question people ask. And sometimes I turn those answers into posts on my website and emails that I send out to everybody when they're helpful. So I did that for a question that Steve posted and another one that Dave posted to me at Craig Peterson, calm that's ME. Me at Craig Peterson calm. And so what I want to ask you guys right now, because you guys always have such great, great suggestions. And there was another one to about the name of the podcast and what I should call some of the stuff and there was kind of a cool one that was mentioned called the vault which I thought was neat. But anyway, here's the question for you guys. What should I be doing for Cybersecurity Awareness Month Should we do something Special of course we've got about two weeks left and cybersecurity month so per usual I'm kind of dragging my feet on this thing. But do you have any suggestions? You know, I did the security summer which we just finished up and that was a lot of work hundreds of hours went into that in reality when we went back and looked at it, but anything special you guys think we should be doing for cybersecurity month? And what about the rest of the year? I've been thinking about launching a program kind of a training program if you will, for for the people who are kind of elected as cybersecurity people for their business you know, they not really want to go into cybersecurity as a career but they have to know a lot more about it. So I did one of those courses. Maybe 8-10 months ago, it's been a while and I was thinking maybe we should do one of those again. I don't know you guys let me know maybe I can update the old course add some more things. But are you that cyber secure? Are you the person that isn't really a career, the cybersecurity person, you kind of got roped into it, you know, let me know, what do you think we should do for Cybersecurity Awareness Month? Do you think we should do another launch of this course that I put together and I'm thinking about some other ways to do this too because cybersecurity can be confusing, and it can be a bit overwhelming, kind of do a little bit more step by step. And rather than have these hour plus long videos explaining things, maybe break it up into 10 minute or so, segments or we solve one narrow part of a problem. You know, so we're talking about Wi-Fi. So we delve into one part of Wi-Fi as part of a Wi-Fi module, rather than spending an hour and 15 minutes or even an hour and a half on Wi-Fi. What do you think Lino guys let me know I really want to help out here. And the best way for me to help is to know what you need and what you want, and the best way to do that is. Just email me at Craig Peterson calm or go ahead and text me as well. 855-385-5553 so remember to everybody that I get a lot of email and a lot of questions. So don't expect discuss the subjects for me to get right back to instantly. that's unlikely to happen. But we do try and answer everybody's email or also from texting. So take care, buddy, have a great day and we'll chat again tomorrow. Bye-bye.
