Morning everybody. Hopefully, you're having a great day. It's a great week. Today we got snow and freezing rain coming in the northeast. My anyways, today I was on with Jim Polito. And we talked about five G and a couple of other technologies. So here we go with Jim.

Jim Polito
This guy. He's like the Santa Claus of the tech world. I'm talking about my good friend and yours. He's our Tech Talk guru, Craig Peterson. Good morning, Sir. How are you today?

Craig Peterson
Hey, good morning. I am doing so well. It's been fun. I was at a family wedding last week. My sister in law got married. It was lovely. Today, I'm heading down to the swamp. So we'll see how that goes.

Jim Polito
Yeah. Have fun. It is a busy time of year, and we hopefully will have a white Christmas. Soon we will have Christmas, Hanukkah, and on Monday, it is Festivus Monday. Hanukkah begins Saturday, and then we've got Christmas Wednesday. That is the trifecta of the Big Three religions in the world. I can't believe that Christmas Eve is a week from today. Isn't Canadian Christmas tomorrow?

Craig Peterson
It was a couple of weeks ago because that's what I told my kids and so they gave me my present then. Okay. In honor. You know, my dad used to tell me that Christmas Eve was a Norwegians holiday, of course, that is why it is Peterson, right? Yeah. Norwegians would open a gift on Christmas Eve, and I'm not sure I'm going to have to ask him if that was yet another made-up holiday to keep us quiet.

Jim Polito
No, but we used to. I mean, I know a lot of families did that. Have the kids opened a gift on Christmas Eve? And then keep them quiet. My family did. We were Italian. Everything was Christmas Eve. Christmas Day was a big meal. But that was it. All the gifts for Christmas Eve.

Craig Peterson
That's a great idea.

Jim Polito
That's it.

Craig Peterson
We've got one of our daughter's, you know, speaking of trifectas. She's working over in Kentucky. She's one of the managers on the farm that won the Triple Crown last year. She and her daughter are coming up. my granddaughter and she's bringing a boyfriend with her, and I'm sitting here wondering what that is all about.

Jim Polito
You better get ready for that. Hey, If you are looking to upgrade your phone - should I get one with the latest in connectivity. So should I buy a 5g phone or not.

Craig Peterson
Today, there are some manufacturers with 5G phones. You know, we've talked about how it's going to be the big wave, it is going to change everything. You look at how we have these autonomous vehicles, more or less starting to hit the roads. Now, 5g is going to let them talk to each other, talk to the cloud, and get really up to date information. With 5G, even your Levi's trucker jacket to talk to it. Everything is going to be connected. You're going to buy a laptop, and it will come all of them with 5G built into it. It's going to be everywhere. However, the question now for those of you don't know you've got 4g on your phone. Now. 5g is the latest bit of wireless communication now.

Jim Polito
I understand. I read an article that there's an experiment Going on the closest 5g to us right now in Massachusetts isn't there an experiment going on in Providence, Rhode Island? Aren't they getting 5g right now?

Craig Peterson
Well, yeah, but here's the problem. It is kind of like when 4g LTE came out, and this is the data standard for your phones. It was 4g, somewhat. Now what we're seeing is in a minimal area, we're talking about a few blocks of a few downtown areas, New York City, being one of them. I do think something is going on in Providence right now. Yeah, where you're getting 5g, but you're getting what's called the wideband ultra wideband. So here's what we see right now. The Big Boy right now on the block with 5g is T Mobile.

Jim Polito
Yeah, I think that's who's experimenting Providence. Yeah.

Craig Peterson
Yeah. Friday, they turned on their 600 megahertz 5g network. Now, this is 5g, but it's not as fast as the ultra-wideband 5g is. It's, but it's like 100 megabits a second. That's crazy, quick. But whining, but ultimately 5g is going to be one gigabit so so here's the trick for Christmas for gift giving. Yeah, for your self. Right. Samsung has announced a couple of phones out there, the Galaxy Note 10 plus and the one plus 70. Both of those phones are on pre-order. But don't buy a 5g phone unless you have to buy a new phone right now.

Jim Polito
That's a good piece of advice.

Craig Peterson
Yeah. AT&T and Verizon both have some ultra wideband networks that are about a 50 megabits faster right now than T-mobile's. But they only cover a few blocks of a few downtown Areas versus t mobile's that's more or less nationwide wait into the summer of 2020. I would advise you to wait till the fall because that's when our friends at Apple are going to have their new iPhone 12. But at that point, everything will be solidified. And that's why Apple didn't come up with 5g and the iPhone 11. We're not ready yet. It is going to roll out. We're going to see upwards of a gigabit with the bandwidth, and then everything's going to change, and I'm going to be taking a much different tune.

Jim Polito
Isn't this great. So folks, all that Fast Five G that you've heard about you just heard from Craig wants you to wait, maybe the summer maybe the fall. Now, Craig. The other question is, Why are people so upset with 5g towers? What's the is this kind of like the anti-vaccination movement? I mean, what's the problem with 5g towers, I've had 4g, 3g, all of it.

Craig Peterson
Yeah, exactly. And it's not as though you're a dumber than you were a few years ago.

Jim Polito
I wouldn't use that analogy. I mean, it depends upon the tool you're using to measure intelligence. But go ahead.

Craig Peterson
Now, you know, I have an advanced class ham license from the FCC. Yes, yes. I can. I can transmit 1500 watts. Myself. Yeah. Yeah. With this fair amount of power. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And unlimited power when you get up into the light range. So doing Earthbound moon bounces and stuff. But anyway, here's the problem. People hear the word radiation, and they freak out. Yeah. When we're talking about cell towers, they radiate. They have radiation, but there is a big difference. Okay, we're talking about two different types of radiation. You have ionizing radiation, which is the dangerous stuff. That's what you get from nuclear power plants to the core of the reactor in Chernobyl. And then you have non-ionizing radiation, which is what you get from cell phones and cell phone towers. Now, the reason people are kind of getting upset about this gym is unlike 4g and prior where you have these big trees that look artificial. I know there is one on the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut. It's kind of my landmark like, oh, I'm almost at the New York line. It's one of those trees. Yeah. So I'm like that, with 5g because of the frequencies involved. There have to be upwards of 100 times as many of these transmissions right. And so there will be a lot of them. They'll be mounting them on the sides of buildings. They're much much, much smaller. But there are many, many more of them. And depending on where you live, etc., you may or may not see these bills pay you to have one on the side of your house, because it'll cover your neighbors, it'll cover your neighborhood. And this is going to be a massive blow to the cable TV companies. Because if you can get gigabit for cheap, right, you know, from whomever your provider is, it's going to make a big difference. But they've got to get out of these towers, if you will, are these really what they are 5g cell sites all over the place. So people are worried there's going to be so many of them they're going to be right next to I see that going to cause harm? And the reality is there's no real science, and I'll just kind of leave it there. But there's no real scientist that says that any of this is harmful to humans. It is non-ionizing radiation.

Jim Polito
Yeah, exactly. Okay. Craig, this was fascinating now. Folks, you heard that. How would you like to have access to this man all the time? Here's what you do. You text him my name, Jim, to this number 855-385-5553. Just text Jim to 855-385-5553 standard data and text rates apply, Craig will provide you with information regularly the same information he gives to me. Plus, if there's a crisis, a data breach, or theft, he will update you with all the information you need to know he's not going to try to sell you anything, and he's not going to charge you anything. Craig, fantastic segment, and we look forward to talking with you on Christmas Eve.

Craig Peterson
All right. Take care, gentlemen.

Jim Polito
All right. We'll be right back that was a great segment, Danny. Now I understand. 5g and everything else. And I don't need it right now. But man, that's going to be great when you have that kind of signal and power that's going to be great. And just to see the difference that we went from even 3g to 4g yeah difference from 4g to 5g is even bigger than that. What a leap. All right, don't go anywhere. We have a final word. When we return. You're listening to the Jim Pulido show your safe space.
