“In a weird way, America has been waiting for this news story,” says LeGrande, “and now we have it in all its tragic glory.” Michael Slager, a white police officer in North Charleston, SC was charged this week with murder after a cellphone video surfaced showing him shooting and killing Walter Scott, an unarmed African-American man.

“Yes, we must have justice for the Scott family,” says pop culture commentator Ernest Owens. “But this is not the time to get excited about the possibility of a white cop getting convicted. We must stand for something more, be something more.”

On the heels of high-profile instances of police using lethal force, #BlackTwitter has been an unstoppable force in raising consciousness. A provocative conversation, Ernest and LeGrande discuss the merits of “The Root” article “For Better or Worse, Black Twitter Cannot Be Denied.”

“We’ve got to move from hashtag activism into real activism,” says Ernest. His site is www.ernestowens.com. Join the conversation at www.getboldtoday.com.
