info_outlineMike, Tom, and Tad are in studio. Crunch had a family gathering to attend to, and hey, family first right. He will be in next week, and for sure they will be dragging him to Etown for the Subaru event. No 196X Camaros buddy, lets get him a little more modern!
A surprise stop in guest, Jeff "Fireman", that Mike has known for many years takes crunches seat for the evening. He just picked himself up a new ride a few weeks back. A Chevy SS as he quickly pointed out. Over time this car will be going through some nice mods. Think LSA engine in a SS. We will follow his progress.
A few episodes back JJ from IAG Performance called in to explain some of the ins and outs of the process of building some bad to the bone WRX platform cars and engines. There was conversation about getting a particular configuration into the 8.XX second range in the 1/4 mile. With no way for us to know, it turns out to be a car tuned by Tad's idol, JR Barrios of JRTuned. JJ and JR give some details about the build, the pass, and honestly after everything was in place, how smoothly it all went.
CJs STI along with efforts from PrimeMotoring, IAG Performance, Manley, and JRTuned tuning all came together nicely in a off the trailer pass of 8.909 at 164 MPH! This is absolutely staggering from a perspective that the basic platform is just like it would be if it were off the showroom floor.
Some people seem to be under the assumption that a dyno number is the end all to be all of performance. A dyno session can be bumped up, but the laws of physics are inflexible. One thing people should take away from this, including the caller, is that a dyno is a tool to help you achieve a result... the dyno is NOT the result. After all, we ain't racing dynos... now are we.
Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways.
