Stop Writing Alone
Episode 186: Writing Peer Letters for Better Critique Conversations Episode Description Critique conversations can sometimes be complicated by the reader’s intention rather than serving the author of the piece being critiqued. This month, a small cohort of Stop Writing Alone members is trying out a new process for critique involving some tools like Writing Notes (discussed in ), and Peer Letters, to help writing groups remain focused on the true purpose of critiquing each other’s writing: helping each writer to best bring their vision for their writing to life. Episode 185: "Writing Notes" for Critique and Creation Episode Description As the S has begun to experiment with a new way to critique our writing, I have discovered a tool in “writing notes” that I wanted to share with the whole community. “Writing Notes” are meant to be shared with readers of your work to help focus their feedback on what you actually need to help your WIP become exactly what you’ve dreamed, but I have also found that these notes are helping me stay focused as well. This week I shared my process in writing my writing notes and challenge you to take the...

info_outlineThis week Stop Writing Alone host, Nicole Rivera, is challenging the community to a flash fiction writing celebration of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones. Since Nicole has been all wrapped up in series’ conclusion this month, she decided to bring the obsession to the writing community in the form of a writing prompt and challenge. Your job is to write a flash fiction piece (less than 400 words), using the first paragraph of George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones as a model and prompt. Call in to the Stop Writing Alone Voice line at (646)907-9607 before May 13, 2019 to record your story and it will be shared on the May 16th episode of Stop Writing Alone! This technique of modeling prompt has been called Mimicking a Mentor, and is reminiscent of MadLibs except instead of picking new parts of speech without context, you do so with the intent of completing a short story. Listen to this week’s episode of Stop Writing Alone for a complete description of this technique of writing prompts
