+1 #122: Dynamic Equilibrium
Release Date: 12/06/2017
Osho had a great line.
He told us that, in life, there’s really no such thing as “balance.” Certainly not “static balance” where everything is totally (ideally, once and for all!) perfectly at equilibrium.
He tells us that balance is a VERB, not a noun. “Balancing” not “balanced.”
He says life is more like walking on a tightrope.
Imagine you up there on a tightrope. You’re a really good tightrope walker. You’ve put in your 10,000+ hours and you can masterfully move across the high wire.
You’re never actually “balanced” per se.
At one moment you’re leaning a little to the left. Then with the next step you’re leaning a little to the right. Then back. Then back again.
Your balance is DYNAMIC.
You’re creating that dynamic equilibrium with every step you take.
You’re never really completely “balanced” in a static way.
Same with life.
Moment to moment to moment we find a new, dynamic sense of equilibrium. At one moment we’re a little “imbalanced” in one direction. Then a little “imbalanced” in another.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
So, let’s stop thinking we’re going to get every aspect of our lives balanced in a static sense.
Let’s embrace the dynamic equilibrium.
Today’s +1: How can you do that a little more today?
