"Ephesians: Insights Into a Pastor's Heart"

Crossgate Church Podcasts

Lot’s can be said about this book—and we WILL say a lot in this study—but the key theme throughout the letter is “the power of God’s grace.” In fact, the word “grace”—pound for pound—appears more in the letter to the Ephesians than any other book in the Bible. GOSPEL HOPE . . .

  • There is no one so far from the reach of God that they cannot be rescued by God.

“Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or His ear dull, that it cannot hear.”  Isaiah 59:1

RELENTLESS PURSUIT . . .

  • Even in our rebellion, God relentlessly pursues
    • As relentless as Saul was in pursuing and persecuting Christians with legalistic zeal, Jesus was even more relentlessly pursuing Saul in sovereign grace.

“But when He who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son to me in order that I might preach Him among the Gentiles . . .”  Galatians 1:15-16

“ . . . Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.  But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display His perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in Him for eternal life.”  1 Timothy 1:15-16

  • In our running from God, we will eventually find ourselves running into God. (Jonah; Adam and Eve)

“Where shall I go from Your Spirit?  Or where shall I flee from Your presence?”  Psalm 139:7

“For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written, ‘As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.’  So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.”  Romans 14:10-12

OBEDIENCE OVER FEAR . . .

  • If we are going to join God where He is at work, our obedience to God must be greater than our fears.

GOSPEL TRANSFORMATION . . .

  • Gospel transformation always leads to gospel proclamation.

“And immediately he (Saul) proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying, ‘He is the Son of God.’”

  • Gospel proclamation always leads to gospel multiplication.

“So he (Saul) went in and out among them at Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord . . . So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up.  And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.”  Acts 9:28, 31
