Mount Eden Vineyards--Premier Chardonnay & Pinot Noir

Journeys of Discovery with Tom Wilmer
Released on Feb 22, 2016

Perched on a mountaintop, 2,000 feet above the Santa Clara Valley floor in California, Mount Eden Vineyards owners, Jeffery and Ellie Patterson say, “ It has been a wonderful experience to raise a family in this magical place and to be custodians of a great tradition. The land and its history are the heroes here. Our job is to simply let our magnificent Mount Eden speak through our wines.” And exceptional wines are a house specialty at Mount Eden, with their 2012 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay awarded the coveted #5 spot on Wine Spectator’s “Top 10 Wines of 2015--and that’s just one of a seemingly endless litany of industry and consumer accolades.

Robert Parker Jr. from Wine Advocate--This iconic winery continues to offer wines with personalities and styles that set them apart (especially the estate wines) from just about anything else readers will taste from California.”

Come along for a visit with winemaker, Jeffrey Patterson as he shares his passion for producing award-winning wines and the winery’s fascinating history. Martin Ray was the first to plant grapes on Mount Eden back in 1942. Legendary grower and winemaker, Ray was inspired by, and learned his craft, while working for pioneer vintner Paul Masson on a neighboring mountaintop. Quick to pay homage to the winery’s direct connection with the early champions of fine California wines, Patterson continues the longest lineage of a single-vineyard estate producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in America. Jeffrey says, “My winemaking process is straight forward, using native yeast fermentation. After all, wine has been made for thousands of years all by itself. You might say our wines are vineyard driven rather than winemaker driven—the grapes dictate my winemaking style.”
