I’m thrilled to welcome you BACK to Coach Magic. We took a hiatus for about 2 years. I missed you! Backstory … up until 2022, I had been podcasting for about 7 years. My first show was called Get Gutsy. You may have been one of our listeners?! When I felt that show was complete, we launched Coach Magic, put out about 20 episodes, and then I decided I need to focus on other things. I was creating another revenue stream in my business that required a great deal of bandwidth … and my family needed me a lot. Amidst all of that, I didn’t know if I wanted to have a podcast anymore. There were so many changes happening in the coaching industry and I needed some time to feel into the highest and best use of me. So I paused the podcast. Didn’t make a grand announcement. One of the beliefs that I’m here to dismantle is that we have to be busy to have value. Busy is not a badge of honor. This comes up so often in my interactions with people who I talk to on social media, in my coaching programs or during speaking engagements. And instead of just going along with the narrative that I must be so busy as a wife, mom of 3 and business owner, I take a stand and say NO. That’s not my goal. And that’s not my desire. And I’m not going to pretend that it is to “fit in.” I want to encourage you to dismantle the beliefs, old thoughts, old identities that you’ve outgrown. Do this for yourself and do this publicly as a service. This is at the core of being a sacred messenger with your work. All In: What Marriage Has Taught Me About Business
My husband Steven and I are celebrating 16 years of marriage. YAY! We met in 2003, got engaged in 2004 and got married in 2005. Honestly it feels like the time has FLOWN. When we met, I was working at a public relations agency in New York City. I was flying around the world for a press tour with a celebrity athlete on behalf of a pharmaceutical company. It sounds a lot cooler than it was! I soon realized the life I wanted with Steven wasn’t conducive to the life I was living as a PR exec. I changed jobs to something that offered me better hours and better money. We got married and life was good. As we contemplated having children, I knew another career change was in order. This change would have me leaving the corporate world behind and choosing the life of a business owner and coach with a lot more control over my schedule, projects and income. That change happened in 2007 when I quit my 6-figure job and embarked on a new path - one that I’m still on today. It was scary yet liberating (like a lot of change is). Steven has been a huge support during my career evolution. He’s never been threatened by my ambition or ability to earn well. He listens to me vent when things are hard. He is an excellent sounding board. Our marriage has helped me be a stronger businesswoman. My business has helped me grow in my marriage. The key > BEING ALL IN. Welcome to the start of something special: COACH MAGIC! This is our brand new show and I’m so excited to welcome you here. A bit of backstory ... After publishing the GET GUTSY podcast for more than 4 years, it stopped feeling aligned in early 2020. I had done all I wanted to do with that podcast. It was complete. I was complete. So I stopped and focused on other things. It was absolutely the right call. Space is a beautiful thing. A few months ago, I hosted a livestream show for a few weeks called COACH MAGIC. I loved the container. I loved breathing life into this content. So I decided to keep it going by launching a new podcast and YouTube show called COACH MAGIC. And we got to work making this idea real. I got clear about how I want this to work for me and for you. Most importantly, I got clear about how I want this to feel. I want it to feel really easy and fun. I want it to give me energy vs. take energy. I want it to largely use existing content (we have so much good stuff that can be repurposed!). I want it to be something simple + potent that you can tune into on the go. I want it to be something we can publish across multiple platforms. And here we are! Yay. Pura vida! This new episode goes live while I’m leading the WOMEN WHO DARE retreat in Costa Rica. I’m here with several inspiring clients, including Beth Sears who is our guest today. Beth was brought up with very traditional beliefs about business and how her life “should” be. She was expected to have a high-powered career, be the perfect wife and mother, and she started on that path by going to law school. After having her first child, she decided that being a lawyer was not the right path for her, and she instead took on the “Martha Stewart role” of her home. Keeping the perfect home and filling so many roles became unsustainable. In Beth’s quest to be perfect, she was still not fulfilled. Beth is now a certified holistic health coach who draws on her wisdom of yoga and Reiki to help women who are in the menopausal phase in their lives to harness this natural process and feel strong in their mind, body and spirit. Before the year ends, I’m excited to share one more podcast episode with you that will touch your heart. Andrea Wilson Woods and I met several years ago when she joined my coach training school. I could tell she had what it took to be an incredible coach. And I was impressed by her skills and background she brought to her work - writing, teaching and acting. She got to work coaching her clients and building her business. I soon learned that like me, Andrea had also lost her younger sister to cancer. And she has truly turned that loss into something extraordinary that’s changing lives. Andrea has a passion for advocating for liver cancer, which stemmed from her sister Adrienne’s diagnosis and fight with liver cancer as a child. She uses her knowledge and experience to run Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association, and her for-profit foundation, Cancer University. Andrea wants to change the cancer paradigm in the United States and she believes to ignite change you have to go to the source: the patient.
