Good Monday morning, everybody. Craig Peterson here. I was on with Jack Heath this morning. He's got a new producer helping out on the side. I think she said her name was Sam. And we did things a little bit differently today It's a new year so rather than go on and on I, I kept it short, and I have to say one thing that Jack did not let me say he seemed to have lost interest in the topic of security, which is kind of Jack right? What but what the impact to all of this will be for small businesses. So I'll add that to the end. Here we go with Jack.

Jack Heath
As we get going on the Tech Talk side or Technology side, Craig Peterson always gives us a check-in on Monday mornings. He joins us live on the Autofair listener lines. Good morning, Mr. Craig.

Craig Peterson
Hey, good morning, Jack. And you know, when it comes to the tech side, Iran should be involved in this as well with new warnings coming out from the FBI and other government agencies.

Jack Heath
Yeah, of course. They want to They've threatened is, you know, the whole cyber attack side of things, right?

Craig Peterson
That's exactly right. We have tracked Iran to a couple of significant problems that we've had over the last few years, and one of them was Iranian hackers who are being held responsible now for a cyber attack on GOP megadonor, Sheldon Adelson. He owns the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, brought them to their knees. They're also behind what are called wiper attacks where malicious software erases the hard drives of infected computers. They used those against Saudi Arabian oil companies, Saudi Aramco, where they were able to debilitate about 30,000 computers. Now we've got warnings out there to US corporations to pull up their socks on cybersecurity, and this goes all the way down to small companies. And you know, there are reasons they're doing this jack?

Jack Heath
Yes. Well, because they can, and they want to, of course, in anything they can throw into that wrinkle, they will. But we'll see where it goes. Craig is coming out of the holiday period, the whole consumer looking at the end of the year. Technology is undoubtedly a big part of people shopping, and we continue to see the impact of how people buy stuff and all that. But what's your takeaway as we begin this year, for coming into this year? What, what's the big, what's going to be the significant change in our lives? Is it going to be still the stuff that the handheld device? Is it going to be some? Well, what's up? What's the app world? Does that get stronger or diminished? What are you looking at this year for big themes in 2020?

Craig Peterson
Well, I think the big theme, some of which are coming up this week of the consumer like show in Vegas, but the significant issues are all revolving around these new 5g networks. T-Mobile already has one in place, which is kind of impressive, and autonomy is vehicles. Because both of those kinds of go hand in hand. These vehicles are uploading terabytes worth of data a day to the internet. So it has up to date forecasting is not forecast. But what's happening on this inch of the road right now. Vehicles are also getting something called LIDAR, which is a combination. You're just kind of a radar thing, but using lasers, and Bosh is getting into that business. So I think, Jack, that's what we're going to see this year massively. The autonomous vehicles are going to be coming online, like crazy. There is already, in fact, out in Vegas right now. Some Russian made and designed autonomous cars running around the city of Las Vegas as part of the Consumer Electronics Show that have no driver at all, not even a safety driver. So I think that's what we're going to see a lot in 2020.

Jack Heath
Interesting well we'll see what about the entertainment side of things we've seen such a change what people can do now at home, where they get their streaming. You know if the cable companies are still, you know, precariously holding on to their market share mean how much is going to change for consumers?

Craig Peterson
Oh, is this is also going to be a huge story coming later this year. We already know course about all the streaming services that are out there and all the competition amongst them. But what we're going to see with 5g coming in again, you know, factor 5g, right, the cable companies are going to get hurt something awful in the larger areas. In other words of the bigger cities, maybe Manchester natural, because you're going to be able to get data in your house for cheaper via the internet over 5g Then you can from the cable company or the telephone company. So what we're going to see here jack is that is going to start being noticed about mid-year this year for consumers, you will no longer have either cable coming into your house period because you're going to use 5g. You're going to use streaming services, and even WiFi in your homes is going to go away. Because again, you'll be using 5g, this new technology, but don't think of it just for cell phones, but for any device to connect to the internet. This new technology can handle billions and billions of devices that won't be more expensive.

Jack Heath
I was going to say, something going to get cheaper because the lobbyists are not going to like that. They've lobbied stop to that. Right right away, kind of like healthcare.

Craig Peterson
Healthcare to be a huge impact too. But yeah, that is excellent questions here. The isn't going to be cheap. Yes. It's going to be more affordable, especially initially because they want to get your hook, and they want to kill the cable companies. On the lobbyist's side, you have the cable companies going to do everything they can to protect their turf. But you might have noticed that as of January 1, even Comcast here and a couple of other cable companies lost upwards of 80 channels at local channels, because they could not agree. Because of these providers, WGN is an example of one of these superstitions. WGN wanted more money than Comcast, and these other guys were willing to pay because they're saying hey, listen, we can go direct to the consumer now why do we want to middleman it this is going to change everything and price-wise.

Jack Heath
Five-G is going to be very bandwagon. Listen to Craig Peterson Tech Talk Show Saturday as well and on this talk station. Thanks, Craig. We'll be right back.

Craig Peterson
So what I wanted to add in there was, why does Iran want to do this? Why are they going after small businesses? Because 20% of small companies that get hacked with this ransomware are out of business. They filed for bankruptcy 20% of them the next day. And when we're talking about this wiper software, it's just as bad or worse than ransomware. So it's a very, very big deal and we have to be careful, alright. Then, of course, we already know the statistic that about 60% of businesses that get hit by this are going to be out of business within six months. Anyhow, have a great day, and we'll be back tomorrow. Take care, everybody. Bye-bye.
