HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY TO BUILD WORLD’S BIGGEST “SUPERFAST ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION”

"Hyundai Motor Company is planning to open the world’s biggest superfast electric vehicle charging station in Seoul sometime during the first half of this year. It will also be the first time when an electric vehicle charging station will replace a spot where a large gas station used to be." says ET News.com: "Hyundai Motor Company is planning to open a superfast charging station called “High Charger” at a SK gas station located in Gangdong-gu. 8 350kW chargers. South Korea’s current biggest charging station is the one that is comprised of 12 Tesla’s 125kW “Superchargers” located at Lotte Hotel in Jeju Island. Compared to Hyundai’s High Chargers (2,800kW), the power of 12 superchargers is about half of the power of High Charger. On top of that, High Charger is expected to have a higher turnover ratio as it charges electric vehicles that come to a stop while Superchargers charge electric vehicles that are parked."

FIVE TRENDS USHERING IN THE AGE OF EVS

" At the BloombergNEF Summit in San Francisco last week, BNEF’s Colin McKerracher made a case for electric vehicles finally reaching the “end of the beginning” as businesses and consumers recognize and begin to embrace EVs en masse." reports BloombergNEF: "Two- & Three-Wheeled Vehicles: Of the 70 million two- and three-wheeled vehicles sold around the world each year, 30% are already electric. Municipal Electric Buses : Shenzhen, China-based BYD led the push to fully electrify Shenzhen’s more than 16,000 buses and numerous other cities in China have followed suit. The rapid conversion of the bus fleet was followed close behind by a rapid transition to a fully electric taxi fleet, and more. Digital Ride Hailing: Uber has created additional incentives for drivers of hybrid and fully electric vehicles, even launching the hybrid/plug-in hybrid/fully electric uberGREEN service in Paris and Lisbon.  Last Mile Delivery: Urban parcel delivery is also being transformed right before our eyes with cities like New York City trialing e-bikes for last mile delivery.  The Two Car Family: That second vehicle is a juicy target for electrification and has opened the door for many households around the world to add an electric vehicle to the family."

COMCAST ADDS 760-PANEL ROOFTOP SOLAR ARRAY ON D.C. FACILITY

"Comcast announced the completion of a 760-panel rooftop solar installation at its multi-purpose facility on Michigan Avenue in Washington, D.C. The system generates as much as 385 MWh of energy annually or the equivalent of 37 homes’ worth of electricity." says Solar power World Oinline: "electric vehicle charging stations at multiple Comcast facilities are reducing transportation-related emissions and making it easy for Comcast employees and residents to go green.  By installing the solar panels on the existing building, Comcast was able to reduce construction materials needed and further reduce their environmental impact."

VETERAN MCLAREN DESIGNER MARK ROBERTS LEAVES SUPERCAR MAKER FOR HOT-RODDING EV STARTUP

Across his nearly 30-year tenure at McLaren Automotive, Mark Roberts led the design of essentially every hypercar developed by the Woking brand. From McLaren's inaugural road car, the F1, to the P1, Senna" writes The Drive.com: "While it's hard to imagine there being bigger and better things than penning exotic cars for one of the world's greatest producers thereof, Roberts evidently thought otherwise, because he has McLaren for British electric car startup Charge Cars. Known primarily for its electric-converted classic Ford Mustangs that are as torquey as they are pricey. Roberts will influence future Charge products, which will include further EV-converted classics that fulfill the company's mission of "re-imagining classic vehicles [...] with an electric powertrain and all-new high-tech updates whilst preserving the classic design externally.""

CHEVROLET LAUNCHES MENLO EV IN CHINA

"Chevrolet has launched the Menlo, the brand’s first fully electric vehicle in China.  Initially being offered in Beijing, the Chevrolet Menlo is available in four variants priced from RMB 159,900 (US$22,800) to RMB 179,900 (US$25,600) after national subsidies for new energy vehicles." according to Green Car Congress: "The vehicle has a constant-speed range of up to 410 km (255 miles) under New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) conditions on a single charge.  The Chevrolet Menlo features the new-generation MyLink+ infotainment system with OnStar. It not only supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife, but also offers functions such as virtual car key, remote control and intelligent voice recognition."
