WHEN RANGE ISN'T THE REAL RANGE

"Tesla allows its owners to use more of the battery capacity by switching from its "Daily" driving setting to a special "Trip" setting, which is designed to provide maximum range. But the company has warned that using the function can cause battery degradation and that recharging the battery also could take longer." says Consumer Reports: " In the Trip driving setting, our Model 3 achieved 350 miles.  Models from Jaguar and Porsche actually do better in real-world driving than in the EPA tests. a Top Gear test in 2018 yielded 291 miles on a single charge for the I-Pace, about 24 percent better than the government estimate. Audi decided it was important to increase battery life while also delivering more consistent performance, company spokesman Mark Dahncke says. The fully charged Audi uses 88 percent of the battery’s capacity rather than 100 percent, he says. That limits range but makes the battery last longer.  Porsche spokesman Calvin Kim says Porsche’s cars are known for performance and on-road capability. Battery range isn’t as much a factor for consumers looking for a high-speed sports car."

From Tom at InsideEVs when he drove the Taycan Turbo driving from Atlanta, Georgia to Daytona Beach, Florida: "Even with the cold weather and rain, we averaged 2.96 miles per kWh over the 436-mile trip. If you multiply that consumption rate by the 83.7 usable capacity the Taycan Turbo has, you come up with 248-miles of range per charge. That's not bad, and much better than the EPA range rating of 201 miles per charge. Also notable is the fact that the EPA provided the range figures themselves, and that's not how it usually happens. Many people don't realize that the manufacturer does the range testing and provides the EPA with the range rating and the data to back it up. The EPA has the choice to accept that data and publish it, or to then do their own internal testing. In the case of the Taycan, the EPA decided to do their own range certification, and those numbers came out much lower than what Porsche expected. "

WATCH THE ELECTRIC VW I.D. R EMBARASS A MCLAREN 720S IN A DRAG RACE

"To put the I.D. R’s performance into context, Chris Harris of Top Gear heads to the track to see what VW’s electric show pony is all about. The VW I.D. R is powered by a trio of electric motors with two up front and one in the rear. These electric motors are linked to two separate battery packs for perfect weight distribution. The result is an 0 to 60 time in 2 seconds and cornering speeds the surpass an F1 car. All of this is more than enough to embarrass a McLaren 720s in a drag race.

VOLKSWAGEN ID R SPORTS CAR TO PIONEER SECRET BATTERY TECH

"Volkswagen is planning an advanced new electric sports car that is earmarked to act as a figurehead for a limited range of performance-based ID R road cars and is set to go into production by the middle of the decade." says Autocar: " It has been suggested that the ID R could compete against the second-generation Tesla Roadster, if an internal ID sub-brand strategy paper calling for the proposed model to be assembled at the company’s Karmann offshoot comes to fruition. Porsche is developing an all-electric Boxster. While that model is thought to be based on either the Taycan’s PPE platform or an adapted version of the existing combustion engine platform, it’s possible the Stuttgart brand could make use of the MEB platform to create a sibling to the ID sports car."

The company’s motorsport director, Sven Smeets: "We are beginning to work on the first batteries for the performance road cars, using the dedicated team from the ID R, so there will be a direct link between them. The batteries start in the same area. At the moment we’re finalising the performance parameters of the batteries.”

HYUNDAI FOCUS ON EU ELECTRIC CAR MARKET

"Hyundai started the year focusing on deliver electric cars to EU (European Union) countries, leaving its domestic market temporally forsaken." reports Pedro at Push EVs: "Due to stricter emissions regulations that started this year, Hyundai needs to increase its sales of electric cars in the EU to avoid huge fines. Therefore, from March this year Hyundai will start producing the Kona Electric in its Czech manufacturing plant to supply the European market, but until then, Hyundai sends almost all units produced in South Korea to Europe.

Domestic market (South Korea)

Hyundai IONIQ Electric: 2

Hyundai Kona Electric: 35

Foreign market (Mostly EU)

Hyundai IONIQ Electric: 1.403

Hyundai Kona Electric: 3.321"

LUCID MOTORS ANNOUNCES LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIP WITH LG CHEM FOR BATTERIES FOR LUCID AIR EV

"Lucid Motors said that it selected LG Chem for a long-term partnership because its batteries provide the ideal level of efficiency, with those batteries further optimized by Lucid to meet or exceed all target goals for range, energy density, and recharge/discharge rates." says Green Car Congress: "The advanced battery cells provided by LG Chem effectively allow Lucid to lock in core volume production forecasts for the Lucid Air for the next several years, with additional agreements to be announced in the future for special versions of the EV."

CYBERTRUCK WIDTH

@elonmusk: "in some prior tweets I’d said production Cybertruck would be ~80” wide (vs ~84” body width at unveil). This is slightly too small. Will be closer to 82”, but come standard with upper laser blade lights."

Inside EVs cites the reasons being bed width, three across seating and towing.
