Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 3rd April 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.

Welcome to new PRODUCER of EV News Daily RON MALINOWSKI, JR

TESLA'S RECORD-BREAKING PRODUCTION AND DELIVERY NUMBERS

From Tesla: "In the first quarter, we produced almost 103,000 vehicles and delivered approximately 88,400 vehicles. This is our best ever first quarter performance. Model Y production started in January and deliveries began in March, significantly ahead of schedule. Additionally, our Shanghai factory continued to achieve record levels of production, despite significant setbacks."

"Tesla reported on Thursday that it delivered approximately 88,400 vehicles in the first quarter of 2020, beating expectations. Analysts had expected about 79,900 as of Wednesday, according to a survey by FactSet. Tesla stock rose more than 17% after hours on the news." reports CNBC: "Tesla reported combined deliveries of 76,200 Model 3 sedans and Model Y cross-over SUVs, and combined deliveries of 12,200 of the older and more expensive Model S and X vehicles. This quarter marked Tesla’s first producing and delivering the Model Y, the company’s newest vehicle. However, the company did not break out numbers for sales or production of the cross-over SUV."

"While it's notable that Tesla exceeded its guidance for the quarter, the company has its work cut out for it when it comes to hitting its full-year target for over 500,000 deliveries, up from about 368,000 in 2019. To achieve this guidance, it will need to average 137,200 deliveries in each of the next three quarters." says Motley Fool: "Tesla highlighted progress at its Shanghai factory in its first-quarter deliveries update, noting that it "continued to achieve record levels of production, despite significant setbacks." Furthermore, the automaker noted in its fourth-quarter update that it has installed enough capacity in Shanghai to achieve an annualized production rate of 150,000 units."

BOLT SALES UP 36% IN Q1

"Chevrolet increased Q1 2020 sales of the Bolt EV by 36.1% compared to a year ago. The rise in purchases of the all-electric Bolt defied the gravity of a dismal quarter for overall Chevrolet sales. With help from attractive discounts and incentives, Chevy sold 5,873 Bolts" according to Electrek.

GENERAL MOTORS, HONDA TO JOINTLY DEVELOP TWO NEW ELECTRIC VEHICLES

"General Motors Co and Honda Motor Co Ltd said on Thursday they would jointly develop two new electric vehicles for Honda and are exploring more ways to expand their alliance" reports Economic Times: "The new vehicles will use GM batteries and be assembled in GM plants in North America, the companies said. Honda plans to begin selling the vehicles in the United States and Canada in 2024. The relationship between GM and its smaller Japanese rival reflects industry pressures to share technology and development costs to meet demands for cleaner vehicles."

Joel at Autoblog said: "The two cars will use the new global EV platform from General Motors and the company's new Ultium batteries. The platform will be used in a wide array of GM vehicles from Chevy to Cadillac. The Ultium batteries are unique pouch-style batteries that allow for lots of packaging flexibility, rapid charging, and will be offered in packs from 50 to 200 kWh. All of this technology will underpin the new Hondas. The companies pointed out that while GM is providing the mechanical bits, Honda will be in control of everything else. So the exterior, interior and final tuning of the driving characteristics will be done by the Japanese company. Both of these Hondas will be revealed in a couple of years, with an on-sale date in time for the 2024 model year."

TESLA SOFTWARE UPDATE ALLOWS IN-CAR VIEWING OF SENTRY MODE VIDEOS

"TeslaCam is the in-built dashcam feature that captures footage while the car is being driven. Sentry Mode activates when the car is stationary and it’s being tampered with. And now you can just watch whatever it captured right on its infotainment screen, instead of having to load the footage onto a flash drive in order to watch it on another device." reports InsideEVs.

The release notes say: "Select a clip or event to play the corresponding video. To select video from a particular camera, tap the associated thumbnail marked Front, Rear, Left, or Right. Play pause or scroll by using the video controls at the bottom of the player. To delete a video, tap the trash icon in the bottom right corner of the video player.'"

AUDI E-TRON AND PORSCHE SALES STABLE

Audi delivered some 1,711 e-tron in the U.S. so far this year, compared to 1,829 in Q4 2019.

Porsche reports that the first-quarter deliveries of the Taycan model in the U.S. amounted 221. That includes two top of the line versions - Taycan Turbo and Turbo S, as the entry-level 4S is coming in Q2.

NORWAY: 75% OF VEHICLES SOLD HAVE PLUGS

"Norway’s electric vehicle revolution broke new ground in March 2020, with plug-in vehicles now representing over 75% of vehicle sales in the country. Of the remaining quarter share, plug-less hybrids took 7.1%, diesel 10%, and petrol 7.7%." writes Dr Max Holland for Clean Technica: "As usual in Norway, pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs) were favoured over plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), by a ratio of approximately 3:1. BEVs alone represented 55.9% of the total auto market. Favourite full-electric models in March 2020 included the Audi e-tron (in both its new “50” and original “55” variants), the Tesla Model 3, the venerable VW e-Golf, the Nissan LEAF, and the Hyundai Kona EV"

BMW BRILLIANCE LAUNCHES NEW FACTORY CONSTRUCTION

"BMW Brilliance has begun construction of a new production facility on the existing Chinese plant site in Tiexi, a district of Shenyang in Liaoning Province. With the new plant, BMW Brilliance (BBA) intends to double production capacity at the site." says electrive.com: "The expansion project will be realised on an area of 3.2 square kilometres and will be equipped with flexible production lines, in line with BMW’s strategy of producing models with different drive technologies on a single line proportionately to sales demand. As a result, the new plant will produce purely electric cars as well as plug-in hybrids and cars running entirely on fossil-fuelled engines. From this year on, the fully-electric BMW iX3 will also roll off the production line at the Dadong plant. The vehicle will be manufactured exclusively in China and exported from there to the world. From 2022, the iX3 will then be produced in Tiexi."
