Octouple Tesla News today! (yes I had to Google that)

TESLA MODEL Y REAR MEGA CASTING REVEALS ITSELF IN TEARDOWN VIDEO

"While tearing the Model Y down, Sandy Munro called it “rear mega casting.” He also gave us the best glimpse so far of that cast part, which happens to be three of them." says InsideEVs: " is not one, but three parts if we count the large cast bracket that joins the two massive castings together. They are also welded and bolted in their position, according to Munro. He also wonders if the trunk bucket can be adopted by the Model 3. That would probably imply developing a rear mega casting for the sedan as well."

TESLA SETS DATE TO RESUME OPERATIONS AT FREMONT FACTORY

“According to an e-mail sent to all employees, the company expects to resume production at its Fremont, California car plant on May 4" reports CNBC.

From Tesla: "While we are continuing to keep only minimum critical operations running, we expect to resume normal production at our U.S. facilities on May 4, barring any significant changes. Until that time, it is important we take action to ensure we remain on track to achieve our long-term plans. Starting Monday, April 13, we are implementing the below actions as part of a broader effort to manage costs. This is a shared sacrifice across the company that will allow us to progress during these challenging times. Pay will be temporarily reduced for salaried employees. For U.S. employees, these reductions are 30% for Vice Presidents and above, 20% for Directors and above, and 10% for everyone else."

TESLA BATTERY DAY COULD BE MID-MAY

"Those who have been waiting for Tesla’s 2020 Battery Day will now have to wait a little longer. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the event would “most likely” take place in mid-May, roughly one month after its originally intended date. “Hard to predict dates right now. Most likely postponed to mid May,” Musk wrote on Twitter as a response to a Tesla community member asking about the event." according to Teslarati: "Tesla’s Battery Day will outline the company’s plans for battery development for future vehicles and energy solutions. Musk stated the event would be geared toward a review of Tesla’s cell chemistry, module and pack, architecture, and the company’s manufacturing plan that will detail how it can reach a terawatt-hour per year of battery production. "

TESLA'S CHINA SALES HIT RECORD HIGH IN MARCH

" Tesla Inc sold 10,160 vehicles in China in March, its highest ever monthly sales in the world’s largest auto market, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) said on Thursday." reports Reuters: "Tesla, which aims to produce 150,000 Model 3 sedans from its $2 billion Shanghai factory, sold around 30% of the battery electric vehicles sold in China, Cui Dongshu, CPCA secretary general, said on an online briefing. Tesla sold around 3,900 units in February, up from 2,620 vehicles in January"

TESLA NERFS DYNO MODE THROUGH OVER-THE-AIR SOFTWARE UPDATE

"Tesla has sent an over-the-air update to all vehicles limiting the long-desired functionality of Dyno Mode." writes Kyle at InsideEVs: " Dyno Mode was recently discovered by Tesla owners through an EPA finding that made it public. This is a hidden feature that will allow the driver to disable traction control, stability control, and automatic emergency braking to test a Tesla on a dynamometer. Through a series of secret steps, you’d be able to disable most of the safety nannies and have full control over the vehicle. This allows drivers that are in a safe, private area, such as a race track, to push the vehicle to the actual limits. Starting in software 2020.8.1, Tesla has limited the functionality of Dyno Mode."

CybertruckTalk.com forum revealed that the average transaction price for the Cybertruck could be about $62,554. It relied on data from over 1,800 members to estimate the price.

All Orders - Average Transaction Price: $62,554

Single Motor ATP: $44,012 | Base Price: $39,900

Tri Motor ATP: $75,448 | Base Price: 69,900

TESLA WINS KELLEY BLUE BOOK AWARD FOR 'TOP LUXURY BRAND'

"On Wednesday, car valuation group Kelley Blue Book named Tesla the top luxury car brand. The California-based electric vehicle company also took home titles for "Best Value," "Most Refined," "Best Performance," and "Best Car Styling" in the luxury category. Only "Most Trusted" went to a different car company, Lexus, which makes sense given the Japanese brand's decades-long reputation compared to Tesla's 10-plus years of car production." reports Mashable: "This year marked the first time Tesla had won any KBB accolades. For the more than 600,000 people who have signed up to buy Tesla's future Cybertruck, Toyota winning the award for "Best Truck Brand" come as a harsh blow."

PORSCHE TAYCAN – 2020 WORLD LUXURY CAR WINNER AND 2020 WORLD PERFORMANCE CAR WINNER

The all-electric Porsche Taycan was named as a winner in both the World Luxury Car and  World Performance Car categories at the 2020 World Car Awards.

The Porsche Taycan was chosen from an initial entry list of eight cars from all over the world, then a short list of three finalists as announced on March 3rd. The competition in these categories was very tough as they included the Mercedes EQC and Toyota Supra as well as Porsche’s own 911.

Vehicles were selected and voted on by an international jury panel comprising 86 prominent automotive journalists from 24 countries around the world.

KIA SOUL EV NAMED 2020 WORLD URBAN CAR

The Soul EV was chosen from an initial entry list of eight cars from all over the world, then a short list of three finalists as announced on March 3rd. The 2020 Top Three in the World finalists are the Kia Soul EV, the Mini Electric and the Volkswagen T-Cross.

The fully-electric Kia Soul EV was named the ideal car for the city by the jury, combining zero-emission performance and impressive electric range with a compact body, bold design, and high levels of practicality.

The compact Kia Soul EV features a powerful battery-electric powertrain with a choice of 64 or 39.2 kWh battery packs.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING GOING ZERO-EMISSION, OFF-GRID PREDICTED

Off-grid, zero-emission charging is starting to take two basic forms. First is ZE microgrids that are off-grid or capable of being islanded (using the grid as backup called "fringe-of-grid") that charge vehicles - eventually $15 billion in yearly sales on IDTechEx analysis. Second is land and marine vehicles and aircraft progressing to being energy-independent pure-electric vehicles EIEV, another large emerging market. Delightfully, they help each other. For example, cars getting much of their electricity from the new solar bodywork are easier to charge using affordable solar charging stations. Ocean wave power and tidal power in river or sea is now modular and very useful for charging boats, ships, sea-floor mining vehicles and other vehicles near or under the sea.

VOLVO S90 LOSES PETROL AND DIESEL ENGINES FROM LINE-UP

"Volvo has restructured the S90 line-up for 2020, removing the saloon’s conventional petrol and diesel engines from sale. Now, the S90 is only available with the brand’s range-topping, T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, in either the sporty R-Design or comfort-biased Inscription trim-levels. Prices start from £55,180 and £56,030 respectively." says Luke at AutoExpress: "The Volvo S90 T8’s powertrain comprises a 300bhp 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, an 86bhp electric motor mounted on the rear axle and an 11.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The system offers a claimed 0–62mph time of 5.1 seconds, a maximum electric-only range of up to 35 miles and fuel economy figures of between 112.8mpg and 165.9mpg."

RENAULT IS PREPARING AN URBAN ELECTRIC SUV FOR 2021

"Renault should present at the next Paris Motor Show (from October 1 to 11) its very first production electric model based on the CMF / EV platform. It is an urban SUV using the style initiated by the Morphoz concept car. It will be manufactured in Douai and marketed in the spring of 2021." reports L'Argus: "the technical platform is the main element marking the evolution of this SUV compared to the Zoe. Like all new 100% electric Renault models, the BCB will be based on the CMF / EV platform created for this purpose. The French manufacturer thus takes the same option as that adopted by the Volkswagen group by proposing a specific technical basis for a specific range."
