218 - Liberty and Freedom in Jesus Christ Part 3

As I search the Scriptures, I will teach what I learn from my home fellowship and other places I'm invited to teach. I want to get those teachings out to others so they, too, can continue to learn how to read their Bibles for themselves. That's my goal. I'll continue to have my local fellowships and other Biblical studies on Zoom.

I will always be available to ask biblical questions if you ever have one. You ask me questions, and I'll do my best to answer them according to my study of what the Scriptures say. Contact information will be on my website and all podcast show notes.

Knowing who you are

To know who you are, you need to know and understand the Church Epistles, the Book of Acts, and the other writings in the New Testament, starting with 1st Timothy and going all the way to Jude.

Romans 8:14 - 17 "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. ¹⁵ For ye have not received the spirit of bondage [douleia, meaning under a condition] again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. ¹⁶ The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: ¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."

God is our father, and Jesus Christ is our brother.

1 John 3:1 & 2, 21 - 24 "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. ² Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is."

This world is not our home. We should not expect the world to like us or have respect for what we believe and what we do. And in the same manner, I don't care for what the world believes and what they say we should do. Should we obey God rather than man?

²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. ²² And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. ²³ And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. ²⁴ And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."

One commandment, "That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ," plus one commandment, "and love one another", equals two commandments.

1 John 4:1 - 6 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. ² Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: ³ And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. ⁴ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. ⁵ They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. ⁶ We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

To try the spirits means to 'examine' or 'assess' what the spirits produced in endless suggestions and distractions. Why? Because of the many false prophets that have gone into the world. You could almost see what the world says and do the opposite or believe the opposite. Except the Word of God says to "try the spirits."

Acts 17:11 "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

Searching the scriptures daily to see if what we hear, read, or see is true should be our battle cry.

1 John 5:1 - 5 "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. ² By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. ³ For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."

Remember, one commandment, "That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ"  plus one commandment, "and love one another" equals two commandments. His commandments are not grievous.

 ⁴ "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. ⁵ Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?"

This is our victorious living. We can overcome the world.

James 2:19 "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."

The adversary is formidable, but we are still on the better team. We can overcome him with God's Help. By prayer and keeping our minds on The Word of God.

1 Corinthians 2:4 - 16 "And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: ⁵ That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. ⁶ Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect [fully taught]: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought [unemployed]: ⁷ But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: ⁸ Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. [They would rather have Jesus Christ here now than all of us who believe.] ⁹ But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. ¹⁰ But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. ¹¹ For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. ¹² Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. ¹³ Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. ¹⁴ But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. ¹⁶ For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."

God's Word tells us who we are. We can compare spiritual things with spiritual things as we search the Scriptures. God can tell us more about who we are. We can help each other as we share the Scriptures, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things from other parts of the Bible.

1 Corinthians 4:1 - 4 "Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. ³ But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. ⁴ For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord."

God does all judging. We don't even judge ourselves, but if we did, we would judge ourselves as righteous because that's what the word of God says. We continue to talk to ourselves about the things of God. We can also talk to each other about the things of God.

2 Corinthians 4:1 - 6 "Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; ² But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. ³ But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: ⁴ In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. ⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. ⁶ For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."

We seek opportunities to share those things of God with others, with the heart of how we can help others. We can bring to others the knowledge which is the light of all our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has accomplished, the things written in God's Word.

2 Corinthians 3:16 - 18 "Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. ¹⁷ Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. ¹⁸ But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."

"But we all, with open faces, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." By the Christ in us and us changing our minds and lining up our thoughts to the Word of God. That is liberty.

Now what do we do? We line up our thoughts to be the thoughts of the Word.  We put on the whole armor of God as we learn it. We never stop learning it.

Ephesians 6:10 - 18 "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. ¹¹ Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. ¹³ Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; ¹⁵ And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶ Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: ¹⁸ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"
