Growth Happens in the Now—Not “Someday”
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Every season has a purpose. Growth doesn’t take a rain check until life looks perfect—it is happening amidst the trials, the waiting, and the everyday grind.
James 1:2-4 adds, “Consider it pure joy when you face trials… because the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” In other words, the hard stretches are not detours, they’re the path.
Why We Miss Growth in Our Current Place
We often fixate on unmet desires or delayed answers. We see only the “not yet” and overlook the “right here.” That’s the danger of getting stuck on “should be.” It blinds us to the lessons God is unfolding in real time. Like a gardener who prunes branches so fruit grows better, God’s pruning in your current place may be uncomfortable but necessary.
Consider Joseph, sold into slavery and imprisoned, yet God was growing him every step of the way. It wasn’t until those trials were complete that he was positioned to lead and save nations (Genesis 37-50). Joseph’s story isn’t about waiting for a random break—it’s about living faithfully where God grows you, even through hardship.

How to Live Where God Is Growing You
1. Recognize the Season You’re In
Stop waiting for a clearer sign or a perfect moment. Ask: What lessons is God teaching me right now? What is this season developing in my character, faith, or skills?
2. Practice Faithful Obedience in Small Ways
Growth often happens in everyday faithfulness, not only in big leaps. Like David tended sheep long before becoming king, your current role might be preparing you for greater responsibility.
3. Reframe Your Perspective on Trials
Instead of resisting struggle, see it as a sign that God is shaping you. Romans 5:3-4 says, “We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
4. Stay Present in Prayer and Gratitude
Rather than begging God for “better” or “different,” thank Him for what He is doing now. Prayer isn’t just asking—it’s a conversation that fuels acceptance and awareness.
5. Look for Fruit, Not Just Change
Growth isn’t always flashy. It may show up as deeper patience, stronger faith, or new wisdom. Celebrate those victories in the present.
You are not in a holding pattern waiting for God to “do something.” You are being grown, shaped, and equipped right now. The invitation is simple but powerful: live where God is growing you. Engage fully where He has placed you, and trust that the unseen work in this soil will bear fruit worth far more than you imagine.
As Oswald Chambers said, “We are all called to be disciples of Christ, not admirers.” Don’t admire your situation from the sidelines. Live in it. Grow in it. Walk with God through it.
You’ve got what it takes. Now step into the place where God is growing you.
