TESLA MODEL S “REFRESH” SPIED TRACK TESTING

"New photos from the Tesla Fremont Factory obtained by Teslarati show the new Refreshed Tesla Model S and its new features, confirming the long-time speculation of whether the company’s flagship sedan would be updated nine years after its initial release. Now, photographs of the new Model S have been captured, showing a wider body, revised fog lights, new wheels, and several other cosmetic revisions." says TEslarati: "A few of the more notable changes are a new front diffuser, a part that became standard with the newly-designed Plaid Model S. A diffuser displaces air underneath the vehicle’s body, increasing aerodynamic performance and making the flow of air more efficient during travel. Additionally, the front fascia has also been revised slightly. This is the second revision Tesla has made to this portion of the Model S since its release. The new design includes a larger central air intake vent for improved airflow and ventilation to the battery pack. This eliminates the possibility of overheating and improves battery lifetime and performance."

LUCID MOTORS ADDS SECOND RETAIL LOCATION IN SOUTH FLORIDA

Lucid Motors today announced the opening of its newest retail location in South Florida – the Lucid Studio in West Palm Beach at Rosemary Square – on Saturday, January 23. This location is the sixth in a network of Lucid Studios that will grow to 20 locations across the United States by the end of the year. All Lucid Studios are designed to give customers the opportunity to experience Lucid’s advanced electric vehicle technology and reserve their own Lucid Air all-electric sedan.

he lineup includes the Lucid Air Pure, a very well-equipped model available from $77,400 ($69,900 after federal tax credit), the Lucid Air Touring, which starts at $95,000 ($87,500 after federal tax credit), and the Lucid Air Grand Touring that starts at $139,000 ($131,500 after federal tax credit). The first available Lucid Air model will be the exclusive, limited production Dream Edition, available from $169,000 ($161,500 after federal tax credit) , featuring a projected 503 miles of range, with 1080 hp and a quarter mile time of 9.9 seconds. Lucid Air production begins in Spring 2021 at the newly completed Lucid Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-1) in Casa Grande, Arizona.

TESLA MODEL 3 IS 2020'S BEST-SELLING EV IN CHINA, COMPANY ACHIEVES 11% MARKET SHARE

"Tesla began mass deliveries to its first customers in China in January 2020, and has had tremendous success in 12 months. Giga Shanghai has steadily ramped up production to meet market demands for Model 3. Last year, Tesla registered 139,925 Model 3s in China, making it the best-selling model in the EV market, according to EV-Sales. The company has an 11% share in the EV segment in the largest car market in the world." says Tesmanian: "The second most popular model in 2020 was the Wuling HongGuang Mini EV, which registered 119,255 units. "

 

Also on the Top Top 20 list, names like Baojun E-Series, BYD Han, NIO ES6, MG ZSEV and WM Motor EX5.

BMW TARGETS PRE-PANDEMIC MARGINS WHILE INVESTING IN ELECTRIC CARS

" BMW aims to return to its pre-pandemic operating margin target as the global economy recovers, but big investments in electric cars mean the automaker will have to simplify its vehicle portfolio, its finance chief told Reuters." according to Autblog: "Changing car line-ups from petrol and diesel to electric versions to meet emissions targets in China and Europe, not to mention trying to compete with electric carmaker Tesla, is hugely expensive, and was a driving factor in the recent merger of PSA and Fiat Chrysler to form Stellantis, the world's fourth-largest carmaker. But because electric vehicles (EV) are expensive to develop and still account for a small portion of sales, they are less profitable for BMW. So the premium carmaker is embarking on a push to cut complexity — reducing engine variants and options for different vehicles, scrapping features customers don't use, plus overhauling software to focus on a simpler, more efficient way of building vehicles."

VIETNAM'S FIRST AUTOMAKER CLAIMS IT'S COMING TO AMERICA WITH ELECTRIC CROSSOVERS

"we may soon be adding two new crossovers from VinFast, Vietnam’s first homegrown automaker. VinFast previously made waves for not only being Vietnam’s first modern automaker, but for filling out its lineup with borrowed BMW drivetrains through Austrian manufacturer Magna Steyr." says Jalopnik: ". Both new models are crossover EVs, and the company claims it will be capable of delivering cars to American customers by the summer of next year. The company’s first EV offering, the VF33, will be the bigger of the two and will compete against midsize crossovers — so something like a Ford Explorer. The drivetrain features a pair of 150-kilowatt (201-horsepower) electric motors, with one motor mounted to each axle. The motors are powered by a 106 kWh battery pack. VinFast claims internal testing revealed a range of up to 342 miles. The second, smaller crossover is confusingly called the VF32, though it’s visually distinct from its bigger sibling. The 32 is similar in size to the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers and will be available with either one or two motors and a 90 kWh battery pack"

FIAT 500E DOMINATES ITALY’S EV MARKET IN DECEMBER

"Full electric cars pop to an astonishing all-time monthly high of 7,255 units, up 753% YoY from just 850 registrations a year before. To put things in perspective, it’s worth remembering that total BEV sales in Italy for the entire 2019 were just over 10,000 units! The incredible performance means December market share for full electric vehicles climbs to a sizeable 6%. It was a meager 0.6% just a year ago." reports CleanTechnica: "The brand new Fiat 500e — following a good start in November — trashes BEV records by going straight to the top with 1,549 registrations, beating the monthly sales record of 880 units set by Tesla Model 3 in September. This is an incredible result which was probably helped by fleet purchases from carsharing companies, in what is the 500e’s first full month of deliveries in its home country. Will the mini-Fiat keep up with such sales levels in 2021, and spread throughout Europe’s city streets? Second best, Renault Zoe also shines with its own historic high, 1,153 registrations which would have made it the top seller in any other month of the year."

"Lordstown Endurance is one of the several upcoming all-electric pickup trucks in the U.S. The company promises that it will start production in September 2021, targeting the fleets." say Inside EVs: "Here we have a few short videos that present the interior of the Alpha prototype (the production version is expected to look very similar).b As we can see, it's pretty basic, but the wide array of the instrument cluster/infotainment displays and center console make it look modern. We must remember that in this segment, Lordstown Motors must focus on cost, as well as simple and reliable solutions for a work truck, rather than anything fancy that would additionally require a lot of time and resources to develop. People who want to opt for a premium interior, surely will stick with Rivian."

FIRST ZERO EMISSIONS BATTERY POWERED UNPLUGGED CRAWLER CRANE

The LR 1250.1 unplugged is the world’s first battery-powered crawler crane. It is driven by an electric engine. During operation the crane can be connected to a conventional electric supply or without a cable, therefore “unplugged”. The capacity of the battery is designed for 4 hours lifting operation. There are no compromises regarding performance or availability when compared with the diesel version LR 1250.1.

They are using 700V DC battery tech with 196kWh and they charge at 40kW (3-phase AC 64A) or optional 80kW (3-phase AC 125A).”

SK INNOVATION BATTERY SWAPPING SCALES UP IN CHINA

"The South Korean company SK Innovation is entering the battery replacement technology business in China. This has been made possible by a strategic investment in the company specialised in battery swapping called Blue Park Smart Energy (BPSE) that is a subsidiary of the BAIC Group." writes electrive: "The move into the area of scaling up battery swapping operations has been a long-prepared move. Back in 2013, SK Innovation founded a joint venture with the BAIC Group to manufacture batteries. SK Innovation says that this investment really laid the foundation for the promotion of the company’s battery service (BaaS) business in China. BaaS means Battery as a Service, and is a service industry based on EV batteries rental, charging, reuse, and recycling. SK Innovation and BPSE decided to promote cooperation in the BaaS business through a business agreement and create synergies with China’s existing battery business."
