Heart of Texas Hill Country Wine Discovery
Release Date: 04/15/2016
The Texas Hill Country is a rising star in America’s wine industry. Destinations such as Fredericksburg, Texas have morphed in recent years from bucolic historical small town experiences in to trendy wine destinations. The same thing is happening in Burnet County’s Highland Lakes Region.
Come along for a visit at two of the areas up and coming wineries. We’ll start our adventure at Torr Na Lochs Vineyard & Winery, the new kid on the block. Their vines are just two years old now and not yet producing, so in the meantime the owners, Karen DeBerry and her husband source the best of the best grapes from around the region. She talks soils and targeted varietals that they are counting on to produce big bold tasty Texas wines.
Afterwards we’ll stop in at Perissos Vineyard & Winery for a conversation about trend-setting soil practices that have reduced crop loss from fifteen percent down to 2 percent. Winemaker and owner Seth Martin at Perissos Vineyard and Winery, also shares his hard earned knowledge of the varietals that are ideally suited for the soil and temperature characteristics of the region to craft best of the best in the Texas Hill Country—and he’s proven his skills with a array of awards including a Double Gold at the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
Join correspondent, Tom Wilmer for an exploration of Texas wines represented by two passionate, Burnet County wine producers.
