Asherah is a sea (sometimes sun (always mommy)) goddess written about in the Ugaritic texts. Her cult has been revived by Cee (who has a history of drowning fools apparently) and she is El's ex-wife and provides much needed context for Yahweh's subsequent hatred of Baals.
