info_outlineOn this episode of ScaleUp Radio, I talk with Peter Roper, the founder of The Family Business Practice.
This is a business development and learning practice, which helps businesses of all shapes and sizes that are either run by families, or are serving families.
Peter has an extensive background in business and is a successful author of several business books, including ‘And Death Came Third’ , but it hasn’t always been a bed of roses along the way, and there are lessons to be learnt as we talk about some of the challenges that he’s faced.
In the 8 years since it started it has grown to have nearly 200 members across most of the UK.
Pete is incredibly philosophical about the practice, but also the concept of running a business, and it’s the philosophy of “filling the fridge” that separates it from other similar groups and organisations that are out there today.
As always, there’s plenty of ground covered in our conversation, including:
- How it’s never too late to start your own business. Peter was in his late 50’s when he started The Family Business Practice and, as long as you enjoy what you’re doing, age doesn’t matter.
- Transitioning your family business to the next generation isn’t the difficult thing that so many make it out to be.
- The difference between a family business and a corporate company.
- How essential it is to get financial advice when looking at starting, or growing your business
As you’ll hear, Peter is a lively talker and this felt much more like a fireside chat than an interview!
I know you’ll get some great nuggets out of this episode
