Transportation Department Looks To Clear The Road For Cars Without Steering Wheels
The Department of Transportation has announced new federal voluntary guidance on the development and use of automated vehicles — with the goal of "removing unnecessary barriers" to innovation.
Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao said Thursday that the department's 80-page "Automated Vehicles 3.0" guidance "supports the safe, reliable and cost-effective integration of automation into our country's surface transportation systems."

China Used Tiny Chips to Infiltrate the U.S. Supply Chain
Tiny surveillance microchips, produced by Chinese company SuperMicro, were placed inside hardware within data centers used by Apple, Amazon and other large U.S. tech companies, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.
The chips were allegedly used to gather information like trade secrets and intellectual property. According to the report, 30 U.S. companies were affected, but no consumer data was stolen.

Armored Stretched Rolls-Royce Cullinan Limousine
The German tuning company Klassen has taken a standard Rolls-Royce Cullinan and stretched it to limousine lengths while also covering it in military-grade body armor. On top of that, it costs approximately $2 million—about $1.7 million more than the original asking price.
In the vehicle's listing, Klassen explains that armored limos don't get much tougher than this, saying that its Cullinans "are armored to the highest levels of ballistic protection."

British Airways streamlines connections with chauffeur drive transfers
British Airways is ramping up efforts at its London Heathrow T5 hub to help passengers make their connecting flights.
This includes expanding a trial of the 'premium transfer service' which sees premium passengers at risk of missing their onward connection being whisked across the tarmac be in a chauffeur-driven 'executive car' where to transfer them to their next flight.
More vehicles are being added to the fleet, which is on tap for passengers in first class and business class (both international Club World and regional Club Europe), as well as Gold and Silver members of BA's Executive Club frequent flyer program.

The Trump administration vowed to fight “radical Islamist” militants, as well as Iran, as part of a multifront campaign to eliminate the terrorist threat to the United States, according a long-delayed counterterrorism strategy released on Thursday by the White House.
Administration officials promoted the strategy, the first released since 2011, as a new approach to fighting terrorism in a “landscape more fluid and complex than ever.” It embraced, however, many of the principles adopted and refined by both the Bush and Obama administrations.
