234 – Body, Soul, and Spirit

God bless you all in the mighty and Powerful name of Our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May God bless you all abundantly. The following are my notes for the latest podcast show entitled 'Body, Soul, and Spirit.' I have all the scriptures written out so it will be easy for you to follow along. Give a listen. 

This subject is foundational and is vitally important for us to know to accurately understand the Bible. God originally created, formed, and made man as a three-fold being, with a body, soul, and spirit. With an understanding of 'Body, Soul and Spirit' we can better understand the mission of Jesus Christ and all that he had to accomplish and all that he did accomplish in His earthly life and ministry.

Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

God formed the body out of the dust of the ground. Remembering that God is Spirit. We've learned that from John 4:24. We can see here from Genesis 1 26 and 27 that God created man in his own image. Spirit was recorded first in Genesis.

Genesis 1:26 – 27 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. ²⁷ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

We can see that the words formed, made, and created line up with the words, body soul, and spirit. Further demonstrating the three parts of man.

Isaiah 43:7 “Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23 “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Looking at 'breath of life' God breathed into his nostrils breath life which means made him a living soul. That is what's makes you, you me, me and Adam Adam. Adam became a living soul.

Genesis 3:19 “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”

The body goes back to the dust from whence it came. If you were to look at all the chemicals that are in the human body you would see that all the chemicals are in the ground also.

Ecclesiastes 3:20 “All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.”

Let's look at 'breath of life' with a little more detail.

Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.”

God calls having a breath life as having a living Soul or being alive. One of the things you can see from God's Word is that life starts with the first breath. It also ends with the last breath. Once again everything goes back to its original form. Our first breath then someday we take our last breath.

Genesis 35:18 “And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.”

1 Peter 3:20 “Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.”

When it says souls here it's talking about alive people. People that are just alive has nothing to do with being born again. That would require spirit.

Acts 27:37 “And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.”

Once again it just means people that were alive.

Genesis 1:30 “And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.”

To have life means it has a soul life. Animals and birds have soul life. Plants have no soul.

Genesis 1:20 - 21 “And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. ²¹ And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”

One of the things that you can see here that God created soul life in animals and birds. When it came to Adam he didn't have to create soul life again. God just made it. That's why it says in the Bible he made soul life.

Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

We can see how important blood is to our life. When we would see a doctor lots of times they would like to do a blood workup to see how we're doing physically. There's something even more significant to us who are born again. It took the blood of Jesus Christ to make an atonement for our souls. Jesus Christ gave his life, his blood for us so that we could once again have spirit. To be born again. we can be once again body soul and spirit.

Acts 17:26 – 34 “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; ²⁷ That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: ²⁸ For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. ²⁹ Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. ³⁰ And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: ³¹ Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. ³² And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter. ³³ So Paul departed from among them. ³⁴ Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.”

All people have one blood. All people all over the world can be reconciled to God. Become a three-fold being again with body soul and spirit. This happens when we speak to them and tell them that it's available. When they believe what we have to say.

Genesis 5:4 “And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:”

All the people all over the world are descendants of Adam and Eve and their children. So everybody around the world can get born again and receive the holy spirit. We can help them by speaking to them God's Word and showing them how. All they need to do is believe. Then they too can have the holy spirit, be born again, or born from above and receive the spirit. Once again be body, soul, and spirit people. Just like they were attended to be.
