In this episode, I chat with Topsie VandenBosch, a mental health therapist and a business mindset coach for women. Topsie shares how her journey and mindset shifts started with one simple question. One question that we each need to be bold enough to ask ourselves often in our lives:
"What do you want?"
During our conversation we chat about:
- Checking in with yourself to see if you are still doing the things you love to do.
- Allowing yourself to accept that there are endless possibilities for you.
- Making the switch to doing what you truly want to do allows a new path to form in front of you.
- Making changes in your life doesn’t have to be scary. It can feel right, aligned and fulfilling.
“Sometimes we don’t give ourselves the space and grace to be able to just say “ok, what is it that I really want”, because sometimes you are just caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and all the things you have to do, and we’re not always thinking about “but what do I want to do.”
“It’s determining what you want your life to look like…what are you willing to sacrifice and what are you willing to just do yourself…What does that look like for you?”
"You just gotta do it and then you gotta be able to see that its gonna be fine! You’re going to see it will be fine….That’s what the leap is all about. I believe that God meets you halfway when you take those steps. ‘Cause you aren’t going to allow yourself to fail. God’s not going to allow you to fail. And I also think that failure - it depends on the lens with which you look at it….I honestly think its perspective.”
“Just by taking the leap and by putting into action those things I need to do in order to be successful, my mindset shifted right there with just doing the work, taking the action. And it’s hard, its so hard, it doesn’t feel comfortable. There were lots of tears, There were lots of nights of ‘what in the world am I doing’, ‘have I messed up my life’…there were so many moments like that, but my mindset shifted when I decided to have the courage to take the leap and I haven’t looked back ever since. Now the things that I feel I am called to do are so much more bigger than what I ever imagined. Now I just feel like there are limitless opportunities.”
Tips to move you forward on your journey:
- Figure out what your spiritual practice is going to be. “People need to be comfortable getting still…Try to create some kind of mindfulness. Some type of practice where you are able to get quiet and hopefully get some clarity, because that is where your clarity is going to come from the stillness.” “Get more in tune with your spirituality and/or some type of spiritualness or mindfulness practice.”
We already have the answers inside of us, but we need to quiet our minds and walk away from the action items in order to listen and let intuition guide us.
“It saves you from making bad decisions out of fear..or out of just rushing and trying to do the next thing. I think if we just take some time , slow down, and just wait, and do those things, so surrounding yourself with like minded people, and tapping into your spiritual belief system, and/or just stillness, you’ll realize that you know exactly what to do. You’ll feel that clarity.”
“Surround yourself with people who uplift you.”
Surround yourself with like minded people. “We are all made up of energy and so, your energy, it matters….If you are around people that are draining you and sucking you of your energy and of your creativity, and they are causing you to feel like where you’re at in life is all there is, you gotta change your circle.”
“Don’t let fear drive the decisions you make, but it can take the passenger seat.” Allow fear to sit along side you but don’t drive. Fear keeps us safe, offers a metric system for us to gauge what make have risks and what is more comfortable. You need fear as a guideline, but it shouldn’t control your life.
