The Lost Boys (Again), the Tonys, & the Woman in the Ocean
This week on Doom & Daisies, we're discussing new horror movie releases, Spencer Pratt's mayoral ambitions (and how, despite being a bleeding-heart liberal, Laurel somehow can't help but like him), Valerie's baffling insistence that she's a Broadway fan despite never having seen Dexter, and the undeniable fact that all roads lead back to Michael C. Hall. Which only raises more questions considering she likes Six Feet Under…a lot. Because apparently we can't help ourselves, we also find our way back to The Lost Boys yet again. Valerie remains fully committed to the idea that turning it into a musical is inspired genius, while Laurel considers the entire concept absolute slander against a perfectly made film. The never-ending debate continues and at this point, it may be less of a discussion and more of a blood feud (see what we did there). We also dive (and again) into the story that has captured so many people's attention: the woman who walked into the ocean in Hilton Head. Who was she? What do we actually know about the case? We'll talk through the facts, the theories, and the heartbreaking reality that behind every headline is a person whose life mattered. As always, we approach these conversations with curiosity, compassion, and the understanding that it's okay to hold space for both humor and humanity. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. In the United States, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You can also find support and resources through the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at nami.org. LGBTQ+ young people can access crisis support through The Trevor Project by calling 1-866-488-7386, texting START to 678678, or visiting thetrevorproject.org.
