Dreams and Detours
Dreams and Detours is a show about the life we thought we were going to have vs the one we are living. We all have a story. I share mine and I speak to others about following their dreams, or getting derailed entirely. And then getting back up again. Life is hard and messy and joyful. The choices we make in our 20's and 30's are not always the ones we want to stick with in our 40's or 50's. Inevitably we come to crossroads, more often than not. If we let fear hold us back, the result can be tremendous dissatisfaction. But if we take the leap toward our dreams, well then, the adventure really begins.

Uniquely You with Allyson Fusella
Susan welcomes Allyson Fusella back to the show to chat about relationships. We are not given a manual to understand the foundations of relationships, instead we look outward at others people’s versions of how to act or respond to the emotional interactions in our most intimate connections. From ego to the misinformation we see across social media, the roles we play in our private lives can get messy, leaving us feeling disconnected. Inevitably, we bring our inadequacies and lack of self-understanding to our partners, further complicating the union. No matter the age, we can often repeat the behaviors modeled for us or fine-tune the mistakes we’ve been making all along. Allyson takes us through the various ways in which we can pull back the veil on what we really want so we can attract and nurture love that feels right. Tune-in for some nuggets of wisdom to get you started today. Allyson Fusella Dreams and Detours: Thanks for listening! It means so much to us that you listened to our podcast! The Intimate Universe with Lana Elco
Susan sat down with Lana Elco to talk about the Intimate Universe brand that she created and why this is a vital time “to discover new relationship models that can sustain the deepest level of intimacy and embrace the diversity of human personalities in the modern era”. It’s important to recognize that the human experience in our intimate life has morphed greatly from the antiquated times of past. The idea of a mind/body connection is a reality, not just an idea anymore. As we shift toward this paradigm, we can then examine the deeper parts of our physical and emotional transformation as an expanded consciousness in the evolution of relationships and intimacy. Lana offers her clients a new perspective and creative approach by using the Tantric Sacred Union method with the insights of Transpersonal Psychology. Talking the Talk
Susan freestyles her thoughts in this episode about learning from the people in her bereavement groups, holding herself to the same actions that are used in her couples therapy work, and questioning the access people should have to life altering content. When she thinks about asking someone who lost the love of their life to find new activities or discoveries about themself, Susan also takes that challenge to expand her own life. And when she guides couples back toward one another with tools about forgiveness, love, and vulnerability, she also knows her own relationship will improve with that same approach. The best way to make the world a better place is to share, not to put a price on everything. So if you have great advice or wisdom to impart, please give it freely. Susan talks about getting the sudden change that we experience when a new job, new romance or the loss of either. It’s wild when life changes overnight and we find ourself diving into projects, work or a relationship. The anticipation and possibilities can blur our vision, remove our boundaries, and create a quiet chaos that will slowly rise within. It might be 2 months or 6 months, but at some point we come up for air to realize that life as we knew it has not only changed, but we have too. Getting lost in this has both reward and disruption. From Disconnect to Reconnect
Susan talks about the dangerous tango couples get into when winning and defending are more important than loving one another. Criticism does not go well in relationships, but turning toward one another’s bids for attention, affection, and connection is the glue that holds them together. We all have bad days, when we need extra love and support. Learning to take a step back, not take things personally, ask for clarification, and then have a healthy dialogue is the way to get started. My Whole Self with Daphnie Summers
Susan had the pleasure to chat with Daphnie Summers, artist, writer, and survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Daphnie’s college studies in psychology deepened her understanding of trauma along with her committed journey to her own healing. Daphnie had the chance to attend the Saprea retreat, a program designed specifically for women who have experienced childhood sexual trauma. While there, she participated in a Kintsugi bowl exercise which allowed her to see how putting back together the broken parts of a ceramic bowl can provide a greater understanding of how her own broken parts are also reassembled. It’s Okay to Say No
In an encore episode, Susan talks about the importance of having boundaries and the way in which we can reshape our lives by setting limits in all of our relationships. Once a people pleaser, she learned later in life that saying no is okay and that happiness is often dependent on our ability to honor ourselves. Get Unstuck
Susan talks about being stuck, specifically in an unhappy marriage or partnership, and how normalizing an unhealthy life can be a foolish choice. The longer we stay in undesirable situations, our bodies and brains accept it as the new norm. We condition ourselves in the worst way possible, and keep ourselves further from living a happy, fun life. Dreams and Detours: Instagram: LinkedIn: Thanks for listening! Can I Trust You? with John Weiman
John Weiman is back to chat with Susan about trust, both in the relationship and with the therapist. Most people think of trust in relationships to be about fidelity, which is not at all where this essential component must exist. The questions about trust are: Can I trust you to be myself? Can I trust you will be there for me? Then there is the trust and bond that therapist and client require: can you trust me to guide you back toward yourself, to your relational connections? Tune-in to hear John tell us more on building back the ‘trust account’ with our partners. In an encore episode, Susan discusses romantic love, and knowing when to repair vs end a relationship. It can be tricky when your long-term partner seems distant and the connection feels broken.
