Allison started her hair career just 5 years ago, at the age of 42, proving it is never too late and you’re never too old to pivot and try something new and be great at it! Because of her grit, determination and passion, she was chosen to be a Global Educator for her favorite lightening product Blonde Solutions. And although she has been a shining star on her new path of sobriety and professionalism, it didn’t mean that the world would bow down to her expectations. After her husband revealed his acceptance of his gender identity struggle, the long road of heartbreak, acceptance and surrender for Allison began. She writes about the chaos and healing in her soon-to-be published book THE UNBOSSING. Allison is embarking upon a new journey as a Global Transformational Speaker to share with others how rock bottom can be the solid foundation where you build a new life! Ep. 180: From Startup To Success: Melissa Butler's Journey As CEO Of The Lip Bar + Thread BeautyOn this episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome Melissa Butler to the Friends in Beauty guest chair! Increasing representation and empowering women one day at a time, Melissa Butler, is a Detroit native who has skillfully and strategically launched parent company The Lip Bar Inc, which houses the cruelty-free, disruptive, and innovative beauty brands The Lip Bar and Thread Beauty, into a nationwide phenomenon. Her pivot from stocks and bonds to beauty is one that she describes as natural and necessary, as her frustrations with the beauty industry’s lack of diversity, inclusion, and non-toxic offerings. Melissa decided who better than herself to provide a solution. When Melissa started The Lip Bar in 2011, there was little to no conversation about inclusion in the beauty industry, and lines with large shade ranges were often laden with chemicals or incredibly expensive. While Melissa did not think of herself as a makeup maven or as an entrepreneur, she was a consumer who couldn’t find what she needed. As a result, she started experimenting with cosmetic chemistry in her kitchen creating lipsticks, and eventually left her job on Wall Street to expand The Lip Bar as the vegan, non-toxic, and inclusive beauty brand. In the midst of celebrating the 10th year anniversary of The Lip Bar, Melissa launched Thread Beauty in February 2022 as the first-of-its-kind, unapologetically inclusive and cruelty-free brand inspired by the authentic experiences of Gen Z people of color. The brand challenges the lack of representation for the gender fluid community while offering inclusive and multi-use products at an amazing price point, with all of the Thread products at $8. Today The Lip Bar is sold in its flagship store located in Downtown Detroit, and sold on TheLipBar.com, Target, Walmart, and recently launched in 3,000 CVS stores nationwide. Thread Beauty is available for purchase at threadbeauty.co, Target.com, and Target stores nationwide. Enjoy this episode!! Leave us a 5 star review and share this episode with a friend or 2 or 3. Ep. 179: The $10,000 Day Beauty BlueprintOn this episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome Taj Mahaly, Founder of Mahaly Spa & Solo Esthetician Coach, to the Friends in Beauty guest chair! After completing her aesthetic education in Greensboro, North Carolina, Taj was determined to create a space that would foster self-confidence and transformative services for all. In 2019, Taj opened the clinic as a solo esthetician, driven by nothing but her passion and 6 years of spa experience from spas in Denver, Colorado to Winston Salem and High Point. Her mission was to make others feel beautiful and help them tackle their skin care issues. Taj, herself, had gone through severe cystic acne and stubborn hyperpigmentation, which she knew could have a huge impact on self-esteem and mental health. She soon realized that her vision of innovative and results-driven treatments was exactly what High Point needed. As her services and client base grew, Taj knew it was time to expand and offer even more treatments and availability to her local community - and that's exactly what she did! As time passed, and a pandemic waltzed in Taj knew that she wanted to reach out to others and teach them about their skin. She knew the masses were at home DIYing and coconut oiling themselves to death and she couldn’t bear the thought of it. YouTube is where Taj began teaching everyday skin care enthusiasts how to properly take care of their skin and glow without breaking the budget and it became her passion. Being able to help people across the global plane with their skin care concerns is far beyond what she imagined and she cannot wait to see where she goes from here. Ep. 177: Creating Kid Friendly Beauty With Petite ‘N Pretty CEO, Samantha CutlerOn this episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome Samantha Cutler to the Friends in Beauty guest chair. Sam is the Founder of Petite ‘n Pretty, a Beverly Hills-based prestige beauty brand for young creatives. With 15-years of experience developing prestige beauty products, Samantha is no stranger to innovating and launching new concepts, having formulated some of the industry’s favorite cult products for brands including MAC, Smashbox and Stila. However, it wasn’t until she became a mother that her journey into creating a new, essential category in beauty began. Having been makeup-obsessed from a young age, Samantha has always viewed cosmetics as an outlet for individuality and self-expression. From working behind the makeup counter to designing products for top brands, there was one thing that always stuck with Samantha: the creative freedom that came with her first beauty experience, sparked from those special moments at her mother’s vanity as a child. Years later, those memories came to life once again, watching her own children light up when swiping on sparkles. But this time, Samantha realized that the products that her children were using were far from created for them and set out on a glitter revolution, developing a brand specifically for the next generation. Launched in summer 2018, Samantha founded Petite ‘n Pretty to encourage girls and boys to sparkle outside the lines while exploring, expressing and embracing individuality with products developed just for them. Blending her background as a product developer and mother, with the playful glimmer of her hometown of Beverly Hills, each product provides a beyond high-quality beauty interaction with youthful shades and textures. Ep. 175: From Setbacks to Success: Charlisa Harris' Journey Of Rebuilding Mylani Beauty From ScratchOn this episode of the Friends in Beauty Podcast I welcome Charlisa Harris, Hair Stylist & CEO of Mylani Beauty & Vegan Haircare to the Friends in Beauty guest chair. Mylani Beauty was founded out of care and necessity. As a mother of 3, Charlisa struggled to find products that were suitable for their various hair and skincare needs. Most importantly, it was hard to find products that didn't contain known toxins and ingredients linked to hormonal imbalances and carcinogens. As a stylist, she also found difficulty when recommending products to her clients to sustain their needs. None of the suggestions seemed right, and most were filled with harmful ingredients. Unfortunately, that was all the market had to offer at the time. With that void in mind, she thought it was best to use her expertise to create a product that not only would she feel comfortable in recommending, but one that she could use to care for her clients' in her salon. This is what gave birth to the Mylani suite of products. I had such a great time chatting with Charlisa! In this interview she shares: -How being fired from multiple jobs ultimately led to her opening her own salon -How her whole product line was stolen from her and she had to start over from scratch -The inspiration behind creating Mylani Beauty -If all stylists should diversify their income with products -How its been growing a salon and beauty brand simultaneously -The conspiracy behind the beauty supply stores placed in black communities -The importance of investing in yourself and so much Enjoy this episode! Ep. 174: Smile Secrets Uncovered: Myths, Tips, and Tales From Celebrity Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. VOn this episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome Celebrity Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Victoria Veytsman, to the Friends in Beauty guest chair. Dr. V is one of the most sought-after female celebrity dentists in her highly niche field, specializing in cosmetic dentistry, anti-aging dentistry and dento-facial aesthetics. With offices in New York City and Los Angeles plus a well-established roster of global A-list clients, no one understands the art of “the smile makeover” more than her. She decided to open Cosmetic Dental Studios in her late twenties (no business plan, but a crystal clear vision of something totally unique), which was only the beginning of her disruption of a male-dominated industry. Since then, she has grown her female-founded business to oversee two private practices centered around wellness and well-being—on opposite coasts—and it’s her nurturing, hands-on approach that has continued to set her apart from her peers and attract an elite clientele. Dr. V’s goal was to create a practice that organically attracted patients by exhibiting values like integrity, but she never imagined her mission would amount to an extensive celebrity roster. She is the official dentist of the Miss USA and Miss America organizations, as well as the New York Giants Cheerleaders, and she has treated a number of actors, models, and athletes, along the likes of Hailey Bieber, Madison Beer, Angela Bassett, Jeremy Piven, Kate Walsh, Dascha Polanco, and many more. In this interview. Dr. V shares: -Why she decided to open her own dental practice and the evolution of her business -The importance of attracting clients that align with her business values -How your smile is the gateway to your overall health -How being first generation American has shaped her work ethic -The intricate process behind her smile makeovers and how she’s working with brides for their big day -Challenges she faces with balancing business and her personal life -Common myths about cosmetic dentistry that aren’t true Enjoy this episode! Ep. 173: Teen Beauty & Bloody Bruises: A Chat With The Makeup Department Head Of ‘Bottoms’ - Natalie JohnsonOn this episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome Film Makeup Artist, Natalie Johnson, to the Friends in Beauty guest chair. Natalie is the makeup department head behind the hit SXSW Selected film , which premiered on March 11 at the festival and will have its wide release this summer. Bottoms follows two queer high school students who start a fight club to convince two popular cheerleaders to hook up with them. In Bottoms, Natalie had the unique opportunity to combine the makeup skills she’s demonstrated in her many years of working on horror films with a more lighthearted, teen dramedy. While drawing inspiration from classic 90s teen movies, such as Never Been Kissed or She’s All That, for the teenage beauty looks, Natalie also referenced Fight Club for the film’s more gory scenes. The range seen in the film from the bare, beautiful makeup the teenage girls wear to the moments where the characters are covered in blood and bruises is a true testament to the quality of Natalie’s work. One of the key goals Natalie had for this project was to keep the makeup looking as realistic as possible despite the unrealistic nature of the story’s world. This meant using bare, natural-looking makeup on the adult actors and adding skin imperfections similar to what teenagers experience. Natalie was also mindful of the realism of injuries, ensuring, for example, that the color of a bruise progressed naturally as time passed in the story. In this interview Natalie shares: -A snapshot of her career as a MUA and how it lead her to film -Her favorite types of film projects to work on -All about the upcoming movie Bottoms and her process for creating the makeup looks -Her role as a makeup department head -The process for becoming a part of the Local 798 makeup and hair union -How to develop your skills to work in film -And so much more Enjoy this episode! Ep. 157: How Celebrity Makeup Artist, Vittorio Masecchia, Developed A Beauty Brand To Create Elaborate Eye Looks In SecondsEp. 157: How Celebrity Makeup Artist, Vittorio Masecchia, Developed A Beauty Brand To Create Elaborate Eye Looks In Seconds On this episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome Celebrity Makeup Artist, Vittorio Masecchia, to the Friends in Beauty guest chair. Dexterous, daring, and dedicated to his craft, Vittorio has always set out to become one of the leading makeup artists in the industry. A Montreal native, descending from four generations of beauty experts, Vittorio continues a legacy of celebrating the transformative powers of makeup and hair. Vittorio celebrates 20 years of artistry in the industry with the launch of namesake brand and life-long dream Vittorio Masecchia Beauty. His multi-decade career has covered film, media, editorial, and brands providing Vittorio with extensive expertise in diverse arenas. Vittorio’s favorite highlights include working with: Gigi Hadid, Paris Hilton and Demi Lovato; working on campaigns for clients such as Bite Beauty, Ilia, Everlane and NYX; and being featured in magazines such as: Vogue, the New York Times and Cosmopolitan. [Although his client roster now consists of the highest-profile models, celebrities, and influencers, he believes that everyone deserves to feel confident and beautiful everyday].
