The swedish tenor man Gilbert Holmström is a true legend. He caught the first rays of light in 1937, as well as the swedish tenor men Berndt Rosengren and Börje Fredriksson. Gilbert also thinks that Joe Henderson should be part of this group of people. He was born the same year but in the United States.

Gilbert who was born and raised in Gothenburg had his musical traning in Malmö. He had an older brother, Chris Holmström who also played saxophone and clarinet. The Holmström family was a musical family where both parents played instruments. From early on a lot of jazz music was being played in the household, since the parents had brought back a lot of jazz records from the United States. Gilbert started playing saxophone when he was 19 years old. He played the 158 exercises by Sigurd Rascher. He also studied to become a dentist.

Back in Gothenburg is where he has been most active as a musician and has made some legendary albums. In 1965 he released his first recording Utan Misstankar (Without Suspicion). Here the music has become influenced by Archie Shepp among others. The next recording to be released was Mount Everest wich was released in 1972. This is the first Swedish jazz-rock/fusion record,. By this time the sound was influenced by the english group Nucleus.

In the episode we talk about a few other recordings wich are listed below. Gilbert is still active playing jazz and runs a quartet with Swedish guitar player Rolf Jardemark. The group released the album Blue Age in 2015

Utan Misstankar was Gilbert´s first recording
