The church of Laodicea in Revelation 3 suffered from an environment of wealth, power, and security that led to an illusion of greatness which did not exist. Cultures of wealth and security always end up living an illusion, and are the worst possible environments for the apathetic sons of Adam.

That was the environment in Laodicea that made them illusional, and their deeds lukewarm, and it is the environment we have enjoyed here in America since the Great Depression. It is part I of the perfect storm that has gathered to render men in Christedom numbed to the great adventure of following Jesus Christ.
