Have you ever thought, "I just have to go because my kids will not forgive me if I miss it?" Oh, how we pressurize our parenting lives, expecting ourselves to be everything and go everywhere; don't miss a moment! That ever-pressing demand to be present for every moment of your child's life might initially start as a desire, but is it sustainable? Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at . In today's fast-paced world, being a parent can feel like being in a whirlwind of trying to be everywhere and go anywhere with your children, all while juggling work, household chores, and personal time. The pressure to not miss a single moment of your child's life can be overwhelming at times. But is it really necessary to be constantly on the go and present for every single moment? Or is it about finding a balance and cherishing quality time with your children? Parenting experts like Dr. Shefali Tsabary, author of "The Conscious Parent," emphasize the importance of finding self-care and maintaining your own identity as a parent. It's crucial not to lose yourself in the chaos of raising a family. Remember, taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your children. Yes, that's true. But on the other side, if you have littles, they solely depend upon you. And that means you might be losing sleep if they need to be fed in the middle of the night. There is no clear-cut answer to this dilemma. This truly is dependent ton the season and stage of life. Honestly, it becomes circumstantial. However, in saying that, you can't say that when you have children, nothing will change. Now that is a lie! Children change you!! You can't keep doing life the same way before you had children. Can you imagine what it would be like to take your child to work and have them sit in with you on business meetings and negotiations? To some degree, kids can go to work. But then your accessibility is limited. So in looking at this, don't miss a moment of what you can control in the season and stage of life that you're in. The K.I.S.S. ~ Don't miss a moment that matters! That means you have gotta release the pressure of not missing a moment, because there might be other moments that you are needed more. Again, you have to look at this from what you can control. Here are three things parents can do to avoid losing themselves in the midst of feeling the pressure to not miss a moment: 1. Schedule "Me Time" - Make it a priority to schedule time for yourself, whether it's a relaxing bubble bath, a walk in the park, or indulging in a hobby you love. Setting aside time for self-care can help you recharge and be a better parent. The ME TIME is not to ignore the children, but to rejuvenate your heart in serving your family. 2. Delegate Responsibilities — It's okay not to do everything. Ask for help! Delegate tasks to your partner, family members, or a trusted babysitter. Pay someone to do the jobs that other people can do so you can do the jobs only YOU can do. 3. Be Present in the Moment - While it's important to create lasting memories with your children, it's also essential to be present in the moment and not just physically there. Put away distractions like phones and work emails, and truly engage with your children during quality time together. You hanging out in the bleachers, taking up space so your child sees your face? That is NOT being present. That is merely making a statement that you are a super mom or super dad. But really, where does that land at the end of the day? It might be great if you're Mr. and Mrs. Incredible. But otherwise, it falls flat. Be careful not to fall into the trap that busyness puts you in because all you have are seconds cause you didn't want to schedule minutes. Slow down to speed up! Your day is not a marathon even though it feels that way. So take a step back and decide what really matters from the situation. Maybe your child would be okay with you missing the play, but they really want you there when for their first prom. Communicate with your children and the ones you are raising your kids with. In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, it's not uncommon to hit that wall of exhaustion that makes everything seem insurmountable; barely able to lift a finger, sapping our motivation and leaving us feeling stagnant. Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at . Dead's not fun! Yet, it's during these times of deep fatigue and weariness that our true resilience shines through. It's easy to keep going when the sun is shining and the wind is at our backs, but it's during the storms of exhaustion that our grit and determination are truly tested. When every step feels like a herculean effort, when even a simple smile feels like a heavy burden, it's important to remember that this too shall pass. The K.I.S.S. ~ Find strength in exhaustion! Join us at . But how is rest outdated or impractical? However, delving into the true essence of the Sabbath from a biblical perspective sheds light on its profound significance. Sabbath, originating from the Hebrew word "Shabbat," means to cease or rest. In the book of Genesis, we read that God rested on the seventh day after creating the heavens and the earth, establishing a rhythm of work and rest. We are consistently encouraged to find rest in the Lord throughout the Bible. Psalm 62:1 reminds us, "My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him." Peace and security are found when you entrust your life to God. The Greek term "sabbaton" signifies a day of sacred assembly and rest. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus extends a powerful invitation, saying, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." This invitation serves as a comforting reminder that in our moments of exhaustion and overwhelm, we can find comfort and renewal in the presence of the Lord. The K.I.S.S. ~ Reclaim the Sabbath! Marriage, yes, is a partnership where 2 become 1; however, the individual is not lose themselves because of another person. Some examples of being a doormat in marriage is: 1. Lack of Communication: Your spouse consistently dismisses or belittles your opinions, feelings, and needs. Your voice is silenced and you feel unheard in important discussions or decision-making processes. 2. Unequal Power Dynamics: One partner consistently exerts control over the other, making unilateral decisions without considering the other's input or feelings. This imbalance of power can lead to a sense of helplessness and lack of autonomy. 3. Emotional Neglect: Your emotional well-being is neglected, and your spouse fails to show empathy or support during challenging times. You may feel isolated and unsupported in dealing with your emotions or struggles. 4. Rather than placing blame on their spouse, each spouse can take proactive steps to manage themselves and foster understanding and compromise within the marriage. Then, you have to consider that when couples constantly hound each other on what they believe is right without looking at their spouse's position or opinion, it can lead to a breakdown in communication and trust within the marriage. This behavior often stems from a place of ego and a desire to be seen as right or superior, rather than valuing the perspectives and feelings of their partner. This dynamic creates a power struggle within the relationship, where each person is more focused on proving their own point rather than understanding and respecting the other's viewpoint. Empathy lets you see things from your spouse's perspective, fostering understanding and connection. Sometimes, in the shadows of doubt and darkness, we long for a moment of renewal and transformation that brightens every corner of our being. Embrace the total eclipse of the heart. Yesterday, we witnessed the total solar eclipse, where the moon momentarily totally obscured the sun, casting a veil of darkness. Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at . How much of our own lives are overshadowed by darkness, by self-doubt and negative thoughts that plague our minds? "I'm not enough." "I'll never amount to anything." "Why me?" Do these phrases sound familiar? Do they hit too close to home, perhaps even bringing tears to your eyes? But amidst the darkness, we must remember – at the end of each eclipse, there is light. What is your light in the darkness? Who is your beacon of hope when all seems lost? As we search for answers, we must remember that even in the darkest moments, there is a glimmer of light waiting to break through. In the midst of cloudy skies and rain, I stood waiting for the solar eclipse to reveal itself. Despite the obstacles, when the time came, the clouds shifted, the wind intensified, and the rain fell harder. It was a reminder that even when we can't see the light, it is there, waiting to shine through. Just as the total solar eclipse was a celestial event beyond our control, so too is the transformation of our hearts not solely our doing, but a divine work. We long for a different life, a new self, a soul on fire – and that journey begins with a total eclipse of the heart. "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10) With faith and belief, we can invite God to provide that total eclipse of the heart, to shine His light into the darkest corners of our souls, reminding us that with Him, all things are possible. Life is full of joy, but it's also destructible. How can you go from one extreme to the other—from a win to a loss, a victory to a setback, or success to failure? Where are charge or aggressive thoughts necessary in the game of life? How you handle your emotions will determine where your thoughts go. Slam dunk your thoughts by controlling your emotions. Emotional regulation is a real thing. Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at . And if you don't learn how to manage your emotions, they will manage you, which leads to an entanglement of thoughts, behaviors, and actions that can send you spiraling out of control. And you wonder why you find yourself where you are. We've been going through this "Thought Madness" in conjunction with March Madness. There are so many plot twists as to who makes it to the Sweet 16, Elite 8, and the Final Four. But now we know-- UConn, Alabama, Purdue, and NC State. If you watched any of those Elite 8 games, at times, the opponent was ahead of the ones who actually moved on to the Final Four. But the difference maker in the games was their thoughts. Their thoughts had to get them to the other side of the points being less than and thinking they were more than. At one point in the game between Duke and NC State, Burns (the NC State player) was seen dancing during a review. He present in what he was doing. He didn't lose control when everything seemed out of his control. He struck HIS beat and danced until the next step. How are you regulating your emotions so you can manage your thoughts? Because when you are facing the full-court press of overwhelming emotions, just like in basketball, you have got to slam dunk those unruly thoughts and emotions together! The K.I.S.S. ~ Slam dunk those unruly thoughts and emotions together! That means you control what you control. Don't let the excuses that you can't do something or change something. You control YOU!!! So step up to the free throw line, and hit the shot! Be deliberate. Be present. Be incredible. Be who you are becoming! 1. Awareness: Emotional regulation begins with self-awareness, acknowledging and understanding your emotions and their triggers. By recognizing how you feel, you can identify potential emotional responses. 2. Identify: Once you are aware of your emotions, you can identify whether they are helping or hindering your thoughts. This step involves labeling your emotions and understanding their impact on your thoughts and actions. 3. Evaluation: Emotional regulation requires evaluating the intensity of your emotions and deciding on an appropriate response. This involves considering the context of the situation and the potential consequences of different reactions. 4. Response: Effective emotional regulation involves choosing a response that aligns with your goals and values rather than reacting impulsively. This may involve techniques such as deep breathing, positive self-talk, or taking a moment to pause and reflect. 5. Adapt: Emotional regulation also involves adapting your responses based on feedback and outcomes. If a particular response proves ineffective, you can adjust your approach and learn from your experiences. 6. Practice: Like any skill, emotional regulation improves with practice. By consistently practicing techniques to manage your emotions, you can enhance your ability to regulate your feelings and navigate challenging situations effectively. With Christians around the world, we rejoice together in Jesus Christ's resurrection, which symbolizes the ultimate act of sacrifice and is a beacon of hope for all. Forgiveness is a profound act that has the capacity to redefine and elevate marriages to new heights of understanding and compassion. The power of forgiveness is truly a transformative act that cultivates harmony. If you use forgiveness in your marriage, it can strengthen bonds and mend wounds. The act of forgiving not only heals wounds but also cultivates a deeper connection between a couple, fostering a sense of renewal and grace. It's this energy that keeps engaging the heart to expand wider and deeper. As Kristianne Wargo wisely said, "Forgiveness changes you! You can't forgive and not be changed yourself." When you are considering forgiveness, you must look at the resentment meter. Resentment is a complex emotion that arises from feelings of unfairness, bitterness, or anger towards someone, often stemming from past grievances or perceived injustices. It can slowly erode a marriage and create barriers to communication and emotional intimacy. Letting go of resentment is crucial for healing and restoring harmony in marriage. And that's all in the process of forgiveness. "If you forgive, resentment can't be borrowed." ~ Kristianne Wargo You can't go to your heart and withdraw resentment. It won't exist because you forgave. Now, as you may know, this week is Holy Week. And today, we are in between the stage of the crucifixion and the resurrection. And so I want to take a more direct approach to challenge our thinking on how we can understand the depth of forgiveness and why it's so powerful in marriage. The concept of forgiveness in the context of Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross for our sins holds profound parallels to marriage and sacrificial love. Just as Christ demonstrated the ultimate act of forgiveness and sacrificial love through His crucifixion and resurrection, couples can draw inspiration from His example to cultivate forgiveness and selfless love within their marital relationships. And if you are going to do this, you've gotta ready your heart God's way. The K.I.S.S. ~ Ready your heart God's Way! 1. Unconditional Love: Just as Jesus showed limitless love and forgiveness towards humanity by sacrificing Himself for our sins, you can aspire to embody a similar spirit of unconditional love in your marriage. Sacrificial love entails putting aside personal desires and ego-driven needs to prioritize the well-being and happiness of one's sweetheart. You can nurture a deep and enduring bond built on grace, compassion, and empathy by choosing to forgive readily and love sacrificially. 2. Redemption and Renewal: The resurrection of Jesus symbolizes the victory over sin and death, offering a path to redemption and spiritual renewal for all believers. In a marital context, forgiveness serves as a catalyst for redemption and transformation within the relationship. By extending forgiveness and seeking reconciliation, you both can experience a renewal of trust, harmony, and intimacy, allowing for growth and healing to take place. This process of renewal through forgiveness paves the way for a strengthened and revitalized marriage. "Forgiveness changes you! You can't forgive and not be changed yourself." ~ Kristianne Wargo 3. Servant Leadership: Jesus didn't come to earth to be served, but to serve! He exemplified servant leadership through His acts of compassion, humility, and sacrifice, setting a model for believers to follow in their interactions with others. In marriage, practicing forgiveness and sacrificial love involves adopting a servant-hearted approach towards one's spouse. By seeking to serve rather than be served, spouses can create a culture of mutual respect, support, and understanding within their relationship. Can you imagine how different marriages would be if you married to serve instead of expecting to be served? Through acts of selflessness and forgiveness, you can emulate Christ's example of servant leadership and cultivate a harmonious and fulfilling marriage centered on sacrificial love. 3351 Frustration Is Not The Enemy
Change is a constant thread that weaves through every story in the tapestry of life. However, change doesn't always appear beneficial on the surface. Don't get frustrated—frustration is not the enemy. Life doesn't have to be all crazy and chaotic. Yes, there are times when CRAP is thrown at you, and it's all you can do to stay afloat. Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at . But don't jump ship! Don't let your feelings and emotions get the best of you. As you know, today is Good Friday. Good Friday signifies an end of what was of the world with the hope of sending His Son, Jesus Christ, who walked the earth and then was crucified on the cross for our sins so that we might be saved. I can only imagine what God saw when the world He created was in turmoil. What He created as beauty turned to ashes. Yet, God is God, and He made a way for good to shine through the bad. Good Friday signifies an end to making way for new beginnings. a newfound hope. You see, parenthood mirrors this cycle; you lose what was familiar to you, yet excited for the birth of something new. Kids change you, and they change your reality. Just as God's sending of His Son transformed the world, raising children transforms parents. How can we harness the frustrations that accompany change and the unknown adventure ahead, and put the emphasis on what is good and holy? You gotta focus on what is good and holy. The K.I.S.S. ~ Focus on what is good and holy! That's hard to do. You work hard, have long days, and then are expected to come home and raise your kids with smiles on your faces. As my grandson says to me, "I've had a hard day!" This is echoed with a long sigh. Where do you think he hears that? His dad and mom. It's imperative that we raise our kids with grace, not only for them but for ourselves. And being realistic in what we can do, and know we are doing it to the best of our ability. Focus on what is good and holy. How can you be the mama or dada who holds their child close with their heart in mind? 1. Practice Patience: In moments of frustration, choose patience. Understand that change takes time and that growth often comes from navigating challenges with resilience. Allow yourself grace in the process, recognizing that transformation is gradual. 2. Cultivate Gratitude: Amidst the chaos of parenting, pause to count your blessings. Gratitude shifts your focus from what you lack to what you have, fostering a mindset of abundance. By appreciating the small moments of joy, you magnify the beauty of life's journey. Don't always look at the ashes; see the beauty in the ashes. 3. Seek Support: Parenthood is a shared experience. Reach out to fellow parents, mentors, or faith communities for guidance and comfort. Building a support network equips you with the tools to navigate the complexities of raising children while fostering a sense of community. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." "Life is beautiful. Life is hard.
