205 – How we got the Bible

II Timothy 3:16: All scripture is for profit. This is either the truth or it is a lie. This must be something of immense value. We want to profit from the “all scripture.”

Here is the New International Version,

NIB 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness,

“given by inspiration of God” is one word in Greek – Theopneustos – Theo – God, Pneustos – breathed, God Breathed—a figure of speech.

John 4:24: God is Spirit.

II Peter 1:21: Not of man

Galatians 1:11 & 12: Not of man

Numbers 11:17: God is Spirit. God could reveal Himself through the spirit that was upon Moses. Then Moses, having a mind, could use his vocabulary and write the Word of God. That is how we got the word of God. Men of God wrote the Bible and did the writing, but what they wrote was what God gave them to write. He gave it to them by revelation. Many writers, but only one author, and that was God.

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, the first five books of the Bible, were written by Moses.

Who do you think wrote Jeremiah?

In Jeremiah 36:1-10a, God told Jeremiah. Jeremiah had Baruch write it down and then read it. That’s how the Word of God became available. Later the king heard the Word of God and used his penknife to cut it and burn the scroll in a fire. But God just had another one written.

Jeremiah 36:32 “Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.”

Remember what Paul said in Galatians 1:11 & 12
Looking at the books of Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, and 2 Thessalonians, you can see that the first word in each book is Paul.

Who do you think wrote all these books?

• Romans 16:22-24
• I Corinthians 16:21
• II Corinthians 13:10
• Ephesians 6:19-24
• Colossians 4:16-18
• II Thessalonians 3:17
• II Timothy 4:9-13

God is perfect, and His Son is perfect, His Word must also be perfect.
