The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes   Throughout my life I have learned that often, before I can learn something new, I have to first Unlearn something else, something that gets in the way of my personal development. And that can mean letting go of deeply held beliefs. Unfortunately, many people have a difficult time letting go of old beliefs because it is too risky. This is not the case with Adam Hall, today’s guest on The Next Chapter with Charlie. Adam’s new book, Divine Genius: The Unlearning Curve, takes us deep into the land of unlearning as a means to embrace different and even more helpful...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes   My very special guest today: Wendy Darling is the founder of the Miraculous Living Institute, a personal and professional growth organization. In our conversation today Wendy and I plan to talk about how to overcome the restrictive notions of thinking that “it’s too late for me create the life I want.” Surprisingly this limiting idea not only applies to those who are growing old. I know people in their 30’s and 40’s that feel the same way. And Wendy is here to help. Wendy writes: “I know what it’s like to keep trying to “make” life work. I know what it’s...

#211 Faith Elicia on Eating Disorders: Insights for All show art #211 Faith Elicia on Eating Disorders: Insights for All

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Today my guest, Faith Elicia, and I talk largely about the secret life of those caught in an addictive trap, especially the trap of food and eating disorders. Although Faith’s book, Do You See What I See, is focused on eating disorders, Faith is keen to point out that eating disorder in but another in the long line of addictions facing millions of people in the USA today. Faith talks about how addictions are often inherited or learned from parents and the way we were raised. In grossly dysfunctional families, many children have a very difficult time finding value in the...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes   On today’s show my guest is Leonard Perlmutter, philosopher and spiritual meditation instructor. Leonard’s latest book is titled Your Conscience. It is a most insightful book about the Four Functions of the mind and how The Conscience is the deciding mechanism for our Ego, our Unconscious, and our Senses. In this philosophical, yet very practical, discussion Leonard (also known as  Ram Dev) explains to me the power of conscience to guide us to make the best choices in our lives. Leonard offers practical ideas about the mind that I have never thought of. How fun to...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  On our show with Lindsay Davis today we explore the very core of human existence. I think we can best sum it up with the words of psychologist Phil Sutherland, “As human beings, before we are anything else, we are a “burning ball of desire.” Lindsay and I probe the ROLE of burning desire in every single move we make. We ARE desire. We express desire. Without desire we are barely more than automatons. But with desire we are hungry. We are fruitful. And we can find extraordinary pleasure and productivity in life. And why should our lives NOT be pleasurable and productive?...

#208 Nese Dolan and Charlie: Broken, Mended and Better Than New show art #208 Nese Dolan and Charlie: Broken, Mended and Better Than New

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Our show today is a fun experiment. I have invited Nese Dolan, Director of Communications at Wells of Life and active law student to be on her very first podcast, not as a guest but as host! Yes. I couple months ago Nese interviewed me for an Onboarding Project for her new job. Her interview was outstanding. I told her she could be the host of a podcast, and then… well… then I offered her an opportunity to host our show today. On this episode, Nese and I will talk about the beauty of brokenness. Using the Japanese cultural models of “wabi sabi” and “kintsugi” we...

#207 Courtney Marchesani: A Weaver and a Thief-On the Craft of Creativity show art #207 Courtney Marchesani: A Weaver and a Thief-On the Craft of Creativity

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes   Sometimes really good things occur totally un-planned and today’s show is one of those times. Serendipity!!! Truth is, only this morning I had a very last-minute cancelation with my guest today. So as I was planning a “solo-sode” on the Craft of Creativity, I happened to receive a text early this morning from Courtney Marchesani about an unrelated issue and lo and behold, here she is joining me in to discuss creativity—as it happens one of her favorite topics. I am anxious as anyone to see just how this show comes about. I trust serendipity. Let’s see as we once...

Show Notes  I believe we covered very fresh ground today on this entertaining and informative show with Labor law attorney Teresa McQueen. What Teresa learned early in life as a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas she has used to transform her hugely successful law practice. Now she even spreads her intelligent and ever-so insightful wisdom as podcast host of Workplace Perspective. Our show begins with Teresa describing her professional journey, and in doing so, she reveals one key idea that may be the secret to her success and to yours as well. That is, Civility—an infrequently used word for...

#205 Andy Robin: The Tapas Life  show art #205 Andy Robin: The Tapas Life

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  “You could be retired for decades — so you might as well get good at it!” Our guest today, Andy Robin, truly “loves what he writes.” In his recent book, The Tapas Life, Andy articulates fresh ideas about living a delicious life—one with all the tastiness of a Tapas meal. And for those of us not familiar with the Spanish idea of “Tapas” just think of a meal consisting only of several appealing appetizers with no “main course.” On this show, Andy will share how a life of what he refers to as “prototyping vs creating a Grand Plan” and then provides...

Show Notes

Today I really look forward to the show, not so much because of the fascinating content but more because of our ultra fascinating guest… my dear, dear brilliant friend, Jennifer Bork.

Now, Jenn comes to us with no breathtaking resume, has authored no books, has no blog, podcast or business that places her atop the so-called social scale of that which most Americans secretly strive for.

Instead, Jenn Bork is a wife of Jon Bork, mother of two amazing children August and Tessa, a Facebook Make up guru, and a gym and boxing fanatic … but mostly Jennifer is a woman with as much practical wisdom as anyone I know.

Jennifer and I worked very closely together in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Officially she was Executive Director of my company, but truly she did her best job as my creative muse. Apart from my wife, no one “gets me” like Jennifer. She understands both my personal strengths as well as my core pathologies that drive half of what I do and I think.

So today, Jenn and I will have a somewhat rambling conversation, catching up, after nearly a decade of very brief contact, as we brainstorm the meaning of life for the average individual and l most likely will slip into discussion about the impacts and learnings from months of quarantine.

So, Jenn Bork, welcome to The Next Chapter with Me.
