The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Our guest today, Lata Hamilton, is an inspiring Change Leadership and Confidence Expert, and the creator of “the Leading Successful Change Program” for Businesses, largely in Australia, although she has several international clients as well. In conversation with Lata, I came to realize that changes in business can only occur when individual people in the company change first. Change, therefore, is as much personal as it is corporate.   As a millennial, Lata embraces corporate as well as personal change from a grand perspective. Today’s show is a potpourri of...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Living in the Orange County Bubble, many of us are unfamiliar with the personal and economic struggles that many (if not most) Americans face on a daily basis.  In my personal bubble I read that the market is great, but gas prices are up, and with those words I seem to feel that I have a grasp on our everyday economic state of affairs. Huh? It seems I have had my feet planted in mid-air. Did you know that very few Americans even have a meaningful investment in stocks. 93% of all stocks are owned by 10% of the population. And 80% of stocks are owned by old people. So,...

#312 Tom Yankle: Treating Life as a Business show art #312 Tom Yankle: Treating Life as a Business

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  At the age of 74, I am what’s called an early Baby Boomer. Maybe because of that, I am fascinated by the thoughts and motivations of younger generations like the Millennials and Gen Zs.  Although in our generation gaps, we have many common habits and values. Still, there are also significant differences, especially when it comes to “how to live your life.” My guest today, Tom Yankle, is an older millennial (at 40) who has a deep experience-based understanding of how people in the ages of 25-45 think about life.  Let’s see what he has to say…

Show Notes   It was probably couple of years ago that my good friend Terry Hershey brought up an idea that continues to leave me in a state of Wonder. He talked about Loitering in the Moment.   In fact, just a few weeks ago I wrote a blog on the subject and when I was chatting with Terry about doing a new podcast he suggested that be our topic. So here we are, Loitering in the Moment, that is resting in the present moment of a friend-to-friend recorded chat.  I am happy that you choose to join us today. After studying at Oxford University and then receiving an MBA from Biola University, Caitlin co-founded and launched her sales management company in March 2013. In less than three years, they had earned their first million dollars. Since then, Caitlin has traveled the world for 3 years with her family of three children—a special adventure for any family, especially with children from 5 to 9. You know, Paul, two qualities attract me to my dearest friends: I like intelligent people and I like interesting people....

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes   I feel like this podcast may be one of the most important shows we have ever done. Our guest is Crisis Guide, Keith Page. Show Notes #306 Courtney Marchesani Today’s guest, Courtney Marchesani, is one of my very favorites. I think she has been on the show four times over the past six years! Courtney is the author of the popular book Four Gifts of the Highly Sensitive. Her insights into sensitivity help readers identify their gifts of intuition, empathy, vision, and expression as a means to maximize their potential. As you will soon discover, Courtney’s empathic style emphasizes nonjudgement and acceptance and learning how sensitivity’s silent effects can impact mental, emotional, spiritual health and...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  After a three-month break from doing podcasts, we’re back. I am very much looking forward to our new season. You know, I needed a time of intentional pondering about what I might like to do in my final chapter of what I call “a life richly lived.” This year, in September, I turn 75. Three quarters of a century. Enough time to live a life meaning, adventure, and awe—which has been the theme the of The Next Chapter with Charlie for the past 9 years. After considering the purpose of my web presence, the theme of meaning, adventure, and awe continues… but perhaps with...

Show Notes

Our show today is about endings and beginnings AND the of the unspoken time in between the two. Life is one long journey of beginnings and endings. Projects, careers, marriages, and life itself all have an end.

Beginnings are typically both challenging and inspiring. My personality type is driven to begin new ventures, loves change, and new opportunities. But I must always keep in mind that with beginnings must also come endings. But, with an end is also a new beginning… even with death.

Unfortunately, we all too frequently harbor some kind of negative emotion around things coming to an end, especially an abrupt or unwanted end. However, that certainly doesn’t have to be the case.

T.S. Elliot writes in his poem East Coker from Four Quartets, “To make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.”

In this show I’d like to share a new insight that occurred to me more than one year ago. That insight has to do with the crucial time between ending one station in life and wisely proceeding to the next. It was from this experience that I learned the “value of the tomb,” the resting place between a figurative death and resurrection.

Today’s show will be just Producer Paul and me talking about, “Lessons from the Tomb.”
