Show Notes #400 Ash Perrow: Working from the Heart Today with my guest Ash Perrow, I release my 400th podcast episode. When I began this project, I had no idea where this journey would lead — only that I felt called to speak, reflect, and explore what matters most. Very few podcasts ever reach 400 episodes. I read that fewer than 1% of all podcasts reach 400 episodes. The real milestone, however, isn’t the number of shows. It’s the conversations, the growth, and the community that has formed along the way. At this time, I especially want to thank you for listening and thinking with me....

#399 Charlie: When No One is Watching I believe that a well-lived life isn’t built in grand moments. It’s made in small, unseen choices. It’s about staying consistent when no one is watching. Obviously, there is no single path to a well-lived life, but there are qualities that seem to appear along the way. In my mind those are: Authenticity, curiosity, resilience, and spirituality. These four are not achievements—they’re practices, quietly chosen, over and over again. These qualities certainly don’t guarantee ease, but they do deepen presence. And over time, they shape a life that...

My guest today is Chris Avery. With a humble but steadily growing community of 5,000 Christian men, Chris Avery brings a grounded voice to topics like discipline, fatherhood, and the gritty side of spiritual growth. Chris wasn’t born with unshakeable confidence. He’s walked through the valley of fear, experienced doubt, and rebuilt himself one mile at a time (which we will talk about more as the show proceeds). Chris has coached more than a thousand people, helping men find clarity, resilience, and deeper identity in Christ. Let’s find out more as we bring Chris Avery on the show!

My guest today is friend and poet Steve Garnass-Holmes. Steve Garnass-Holmes’s life is rich in thought and in experience. Talking to Steve is like talking to a writer of wisdom literature. Today we will begin the show by addressing the question, “What does it really mean to follow Jesus?” Is it a heart or head issue? The heart says to love while the head becomes laden with thoughts of being right. But there is really only one way to be right and that is To Love. Steve Garnass-Holmes will challenge what you may believe and then encourage you with one simple truth. Let’s find out...

Today I’d like to chat with you, and our producer Paul, about a subject that is most dear to me. Bottom line it’s about the positive impact each of us can make on the lives of other people: from the ones we love the most to just about anyone we engage with in a meaningful conversation.
As I have stated often, I have concluded that my single most important goal in life to help people feel better about themselves. It’s really not all that difficult, requiring only that you, in some way, communicate to them that they are important to you
Obviously there are myriad ways to do so but I would like to focus today on one thing, the Art of a Caring Conversation. Although the word “conversation” implies a two-way interaction is it actually too often a one-way conversation help be two people each with their own agenda and each with their own things they want to talk abou
I have operated for more than 3 decades with the belief I learned from a psychologist that people have 3 primary innate needs: To be heard, to be accepted (by some group that we view as important), and to be cared for or cared about. When those are met we discover a sense of well-being and deep personal satisfaction.
Today I’d like to focus on that first need: to be heard. So today I want to talk about the art of listening and suggest 3 traits that make for an excellent listener.
They are simple: Kindness, empathy, and curiosity.
