Ep. 139 The Problem of Skepticism show art Ep. 139 The Problem of Skepticism

The Freethinking Podcast

In this episode, we take a closer look at some of the skeptical theories of knowledge (if it's accurate to call them that). We talk about pure skepticism and weaker forms of skepticism, and see that it likely isn't a live option, particularly for the Christian, to maintain such a strong form of skepticism.

No, those two topics are not related, but Tim and I start out this podcast talking about the Gina Carano controversy. If you're not interested in that, feel free to skip to about the 10 minute mark for our discussion on epistemology. In these next couple of episodes, I'll be laying out some various views and problems in epistemology that I learned about while attending my first semester in my master's program. This episode introduces the topics and talks about my general experience in school so far.

The Freethinking Podcast

I know, I know, we have not done a podcast in awhile. And by that I mean our last episode was August 27th of 2020! There's no real interesting story as to why we took such a long break, other than the fact that I (Scott) started my M.A. in Philosophy and Tim published a book. As it turns out, this takes up a lot of time. Well, fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately) for you all, we have come back from our extended hiatus well-rested and ready to talk some more apologetics and theology with you wonderful folks. Or I suppose more accurately, AT you wonderful folks. In this episode, Tim and I...

Who is "The Wintery Knight"? He's often referred to as the "Batman" of Christian Apologetics. This is the case because hardly anybody has seen his face unmasked or knows his true identity. One thing we do know is that despite the name "Wintery" he is a person of color. Be that as it may, he loves America and opposes the Marxist revolution growing in our society. Finally, we’re finishing up the moral argument for God’s existence. In this episode, we talk about the second premise and conclusion, primarily focusing on defending the existence of objective moral values and duties. This premise isn’t one that is typically denied, but it’s a good idea to know how to respond to some objections.

Very few people deny the objectivity of moral values and duties. It would mean things like the horrors committed by Joseph Stalin and the communists were not actually wrong. We merely have a difference of opinion with him. Obviously, this is not true! When pressed, most people will admit the second premise of the argument.
