In this solo episode I break down the Nova classification system that is responsible for classing foods as “processed” and “ultra-processed”. I explain its limitations and how the classifications are problematic. I illustrate why the foods under these classifications aren’t inherently unhealthy and why they should not be demonized. I outline how many nova-classified foods are actually health promoting, and that ultimately, our diets are greatly impacted by social determinants of health. Ultimately, your diet should support the life that you want for yourself, and joy, culture, convenience and celebration through food is a large part of that.
