40's on the 80's

Val Edward Kilmer was an artist, first and foremost. While most of us know him from his films, he started out as  a stage actor who later found fame on the silver screen. Ironically, some of his most memorable characters cast him in the supporting role such as 'Iceman' in Top Gun and 'Doc Holiday' in Tombstone. His films covered a wide variety of genres including comedies, dramas, action adventures, westerns, historical films, crime dramas, science fiction films, and fantasy films.  Looking back at my own past, I can absolutely see my fashion sense and sense of humor were inspired by...

Even though the film, Die Hard, is one of my all time favorites.... recording this deep dive turned into a true labor of love!  Between scheduling, researching, tech issues, re-records..... last year I felt almost 'over-dosed' on John McClain and Hans Gruber.  This year, I've kept the viewing to a bare minimum and I am saving it for my traditional Christmas Eve presentation. "It isn't Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi towers!"

Personally, I have alot of fun doing the deep dives. It reminds me so much of one of my favorite shows of all time, MST3K. "It's like watching a favorite movie with some of your funniest friends." So if you are into details and picking apart one of the great action/buddy-cop films of all time... then here's your golden ticket to grab your dead-beat uncle Joe and visit us at our factory of film analysis.

Merry X-Mas.... Yo Yo Yo!  In the City of Angels, anything can happen. And when the yule-tide, action bug kicks in, one of the greatest titles you will find is the classic cop-buddy film, Lethal Weapon. We really spent a lot of time digging into this one and keep in mind.... we ended up having to chop this one into two parts or risk damaging the brains of you toxic avengers with the netflix level attention spans.  So grab your berretta, roll across the floor and fire up some Christmas spirit!

What can we say? We LOVE this film, so we put it through the paces of our re-vamped analysis system and took another look at Cobra. THIS time, we invited our Millenial brother to lead the discussion and asked him to quiz us on the insanity that is contained within this film.  And just out of curiosity, would anyone like to see this movie re-made? But this time, taking place in Seattle, where the Axe Gang was born from a group of disgruntled lumberjacks.... masters of all things that can cut!  With their axes the ONLY weapon they use, even during high speed chases between cars and...

Why don't you take a picture, it'll last longer! Well, we've pulled Pee Wee out of the dark and into the sunlight and for anyone who has never experienced the 'man-child' creation of Paul Reubens.... I honestly don't know how to prepare you for this Big Adventure. But I will say that if you listen to this podcast, you WILL be better equipped to enjoy this creation of Tim Burton in his early days. This is one of Ricky's all time favorite films and you can hear the joy in his voice. We hope you enjoy the ride!

Like Commander Ace of Megaforce fame once said, "It's on the wheel.... it all comes around!"  And the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic action film 'Commando' is just ONE example of something being too good to not have more than one conversation about. So if you joined us for our first official podcast episode, we would love to hear from you what you think about the differences between that discussion on Commando and this one.

40's on the 80's

It's frequently said that sequels don't live up to the original in the series. And since we are ONLY in the business of cliche's.... we're happy to jump neck deep into the pool of things we don't like.  Some characters are welcome to come back knocking on our doors, but others..... their first visit was great but they when they keep coming back.... and the visits get more and more uncomfortable.... it becomes evident that their reason for existing is purely to try and squeeze every penny out of a great idea.  Join us for some great back and forth and see if we mention any of your...

Prophecy in Science Fiction and Film..... how many things have we seen in film that eventually came to be? I'm still waiting to be able to do a hover conversion on my car... and whereas many of the cool things we've seen in Sci-Fi films would be great, I feel that some of the less glamorous things of Sci-Fi seem to be turning to reality. Films like 'Idiocracy' and today's gem, 'The Running Man,' seem to be closer to reality than any version of Star Trek or Star Wars I've seen.

In this film, based off a novel by Stephen King (when he was using the pen name 'Bachman') tells the story of a near-future where there media seems to control everything. Even goes so far as to mention the President of the United States having an agent that works with the largest studio in this story. Arnold plays a character named Ben Richards who stands up to 'The Man' and gets put in prison for it. His subsequent jail-break gives him a brief taste of freedom until he is recaptured and spotted by the host of the world's number one game show, 'The Running Man,' as a potential contestant.

Richards Dawson does an amazing job as the sleeze-ball, Damon Killian, who some say was never really a good actor.... but is GREAT at being a sleeze-ball!  This film has some of Arnold's greatest one-liners and some great action sequences. We hope you will visit the new episode and hear what we think about this one.
