A Father's Day Special. Dan Zehner is a husband, father of three adventurous kids (11, 9 and 6), and a self-confessed tinkerer who insists play belongs in serious work. After five years at General Dynamics Electric Boat, where he championed a $300k 3-D-printing program for Virginia-class submarines, Dan pivoted to natural-hazards research. Since 2016 he has coordinated the National Science Foundation’s NHERI test-facility network and hosts the monthly DesignSafe Radio show, turning million-dollar earthquake and hurricane experiments into stories anyone can follow.
In 2023 he founded Bear Cavalry Paints in Eugene, Oregon eco-friendly acrylics, canola-oil rust, and zero-waste mud that let miniature gamers save the planet one brush-stroke at a time. A certified Team-Optimization Coach, Dan also co-authored the study-guide companion to How Leadership Actually Works, distilling SEAL-inspired delegation frameworks for startups and Fortune-500s alike.
