info_outlineWelcome to this special episode celebrating five historic victories for animals and animal rights. From groundbreaking court decisions and landmark labeling laws to courageous ocean activism and inspiring wins at the ballot box, these triumphs are transforming animal welfare across the globe.
First up, in the United States, the Supreme Court has denied the Iowa Pork Producers’ appeal against California’s Proposition 12. This is a major victory for farmed animals. Prop 12 bans the cruel confinement of pigs in tiny gestation crates—so small the animals can’t even turn around or scratch themselves. With California ranking as the world’s fourth-largest economy, this precedent is expected to speed up the end of these inhumane practices across the nation and beyond.
In Switzerland, a groundbreaking law just took effect on July 1st. Meat and dairy products must now be clearly labeled to show how the animals were treated. This empowers consumers to make informed, compassionate choices and highlights practices like castration or dehorning without anesthesia.
Over in Iceland, there’s breaking news from ocean activist Captain Paul Watson. Thanks to his direct action campaigns on the high seas, no whales will be killed there this year—a monumental win for marine life.
Closer to home, vegan animal rights champion Harvey Epstein has won his New York City Council race in the Democratic primary, effectively securing his seat. He’ll proudly represent the East Village and bring a strong voice for animals and social justice to city government.
And finally, Renee King-Sonnen of Rowdy Girl Sanctuary and her husband Tommy are leading Variety Magazine’s America’s Favorite Couple contest. Your vote can help them win—and shine a spotlight on farm animal sanctuaries. Just head to americasfavcouple.org and show your support.
To celebrate, we’re joined by four of America’s most passionate animal advocates: Renee King-Sonnen of Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, Simone Reyes of Social Compassion, Chris Green of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, and UnchainedTV’s own Jane Velez-Mitchell, who will lead this inspiring conversation.
Stay with us as we explore these victories and the people making them possible.
