Today we have with us Dr. Joe Spillane, who is a clinical toxicologist working at a very busy Emergency Department. He has taught courses on substance use disorders for many years, as well as provided dozens if not hundreds of presentations on the topic to groups ranging from pharmacists and physicians to community organizations. He has seen first hand what various drugs can do to a person through his many years working in the ED and will be talking to us today about cocaine, which has been an issue in North Florida for quite some time. Today I want to talk about Pharmacy and Entrepreneurial ship. If you look at the history of pharmacy and how the profession began, being an entrepreneur was really a large part of the profession as pharmacists opened their own drugstores and needed to maintain a business. This has been very tough for many small independent pharmacies today as PBMs have been wreaking havoc on the ability for many pharmacies to stay open. I want to welcome a guest today who really used his business skills that he learned on the job as a pharmacist and spread his wings beyond pharmacy. So...
info_outlineToday we have with us Dr. Anita Jacobson. Dr. Jacobson is a clinical professor at the University of Rhode Island and the Program Director of the Community First Responder Program. Her clinical practice site is Eleanor Slater Hospital and her work experience as a pharmacist includes community and long-term acute care, as well as clinical practice in a variety of ambulatory and acute care settings
Dr. Jacobson’s teaching focus centers around case-based learning, patient simulation, motivational interviewing, OSCEs, and patient counseling. Her scholarship focuses around improving pharmacist-patient communication, especially related to vulnerable patient populations and/or conditions associated with stigma, such as mental health and substance use disorders.
