Been a frustrating year? Not progressing the way you expected? It might not be your environment… it might be you. In this week’s video, I pulled a few insights from Leadership Unblocked by Muriel Wilkins and focused on 7 ways we unintentionally get in our own way: “I need to be involved in everything.” “I need it now—everything is a priority.” “I’m always right.” “No defects—no mistakes allowed.” “If I can do it, you can do it.” “I can’t say no.” “I don’t belong here.” If any of those hit a little too close to home—you’re not alone. A simple framework to identify it: 1. Anxiety Where do you feel it? Certain people, meetings, or situations? Anxiety is often a signal that something deeper is off. 2. Leadership Fitness in 5 Minutes with Gary Slyman

Score Your Leadership Podcast Notes: At the end of each week, give yourself a leadership score from 1–10. 1 means it wasn’t your best week. 10 means you showed up as the leader you want to be. That score usually comes down to one or two specific moments that shaped how you felt about your leadership. Leadership Fitness in 5 Minutes with Gary Slyman

History of George Washington’s Birthday The official federal holiday is George Washington’s Birthday — not “Presidents Day.” George Washington was born on February 22, 1732. The U.S. began celebrating his birthday as a national holiday more than 80 years after his death. February 22 became a federal holiday in 1879. In 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act moved several federal holidays to Mondays to create three-day weekends. Washington’s Birthday was shifted to the third Monday in February — but the name remained the same. So where did “Presidents Day” come...

Every leader has a leadership brand—not just senior leaders.

The key question isn’t who we think we are as leaders, but how our leadership is actually experienced by others.

There are two areas to reflect on:

  1. How are you experienced as a leader?

  2. How do you make people feel?

Everyone who works with you experiences your leadership in a specific way.
It’s the reality of what it’s like to work with you—and how people walk away from interactions with you.

As leaders, we often focus on who we want to be.
But the better question is: How am I actually being experienced?

Leaders are the only people who don’t experience their own leadership—which means we have to intentionally gather that data.

This week, take time to observe and ask:

  • What is it really like to work with me?

  • What do people say—and how do they say it?

Next week, we’ll talk about how to intentionally and deliberately set your leadership brand.
