What If Christmas Was About Rescue, Not Religion?

Christmas isn’t about religion. It’s about rescue.

Hebrews tells us Jesus shared in our flesh and blood so that fear would lose its grip on us—fear of death, fear of judgment, fear that God is distant or disappointed.

And that rescue goes deeper than forgiveness alone. Grace doesn’t just wipe the slate clean and send us back out on our own. Jesus understands our weakness. He meets us in the midst of temptation.

Grace is God’s rescue and God’s strength, not just His pardon.

Grace also redefines who you are. You’re not a servant trying to earn God’s approval. You’re family. A child. An heir. What belongs to Jesus now belongs to you—not because you achieved it, but because you received it.

That’s what we unpack in Part 2 of “God Moved In: Grace with a Face”—the rescue Jesus accomplished and the riches you already have in Him.

Watch the message and rediscover what the gift of Christmas is really about.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Read John 1:14-18. What does it mean to you that Jesus became human, explained God, and gave us His fullness?
  2. Read Hebrews 2:14. What stands out to you about why Jesus shared fully in flesh and blood?
  3. Read Hebrews 2:15. How does fear of death (or loss, failure, rejection) still subtly influence people today—and how does Jesus’ victory speak to that?
  4. Read Hebrews 2:16-17. Why is it comforting to know that Jesus represents you as a merciful High Priest rather than a demanding one?
  5. Read Hebrews 2:18. In what way does knowing Jesus experienced real temptation change how you view your own struggles? What role can the indwelling Christ play for you?
  6. Read Galatians 4:4–5. What does it mean to you personally that Jesus entered life “under the Law” so you wouldn’t have to live there?
  7. Read Galatians 4:6. How does calling God “Abba, Father” reshape prayer from performance into relationship?
  8. Read Galatians 4:7. In what area of life do you most need to move from a slave mindset (“I must earn”) to an heir mindset (“I already belong”)?
