On this episode of the show I describe my experiences travelling to Washington D.C. as part of the human rights solidarity committee in the ongoing struggle to hold the American oil giant Chevron accountable for the massive destruction it has caused to the environment and indigenous peoples of Ecuador. All of us who went to Washington to participate in this action along with many others from both North and South America understood that the battle against Chevron is part of the wider struggle against imperialism, colonialism, and the capitalist system in this hemisphere. Now that everyone's St Patrick's Day hangovers have worn off, I believe it is my personal duty as someone of Irish descent to bust commercialized stereotypes of green beer, drunken brawls, and stupid t-shirts with stupid stuff written on them, and talk about the real history of my people. There is a reason why the people of Ireland, Britain's first colony, have...

Back In The USSR

Summary:  This episode of Back in the USSR marks two heroic anniversaries: the 70th anniversary of the defeat of fascism in Europe on May 9 1945 and the liberation of Saigon on April 30 1975 which finally saw the forces of the American Empire expelled from Vietnam. Both of these anniversaries mark a great victory for the working people and oppressed nations of the world in the face of imperialism, and unsurprisingly neither is officially celebrated anywhere in the modern West which prefers to back Nazis in Ukraine today rather than celebrate the defeat of Nazism seventy years ago....

All of us who went to Washington to participate in this action along with many others from both North and South America understood that the battle against Chevron is part of the wider struggle against imperialism, colonialism, and the capitalist system in this hemisphere. The American Empire has beaten down and brutalized Latin America for two hundred years, but time and time again the people have risen up, resisted, and refused to be silenced. Now they are united as never before.
