THE HUSBAND? THE WIFE? OR THE BANDIT? Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon came out in 1950 making it one of the oldest films we’ve watched on this podcast but its message of dishonest retelling of events is timeless and more relevant than ever. THIS MOD IS ABOUT TO ROCK YOUR WORLD! Franc Roddam’s Quadrophenia is based on The Who’s 1973 rock opera of the same name, despite this, it is not a musical nor does it star The Who. The 1979 British drama does have something to say about being young and hating growing up though. Deep down don’t we all just want to be partying, doing drugs and riding our scooters along the cliffside in dramatic fashion? It’s all part of growing up. COME ON PONYBOY YOU CAN’T GO AROUND KILLING PEOPLE! Simon’s choice takes us back to simpler times where there was only two groups in society, the greasers and the socs. Francis Ford Coppola directs 1983’s The Outsiders adapted from the 1967 novel of the same name and he wasn’t messing around when he cast this film. Hey is that Tom Cruise? WOULD YOU LIKE SOME CHIGURH WITH THAT? Mikey’s choice this week is the 2007 film No Country for Old Men, directed by The Coen Brothers. Simon has never seen No Country before and is in for a wild ride. Do all of Javier Bardem’s best characters need to have crazy haircuts? Yes, it appears yes. LADIES & GENTLEMAN… DENZEL WASHINGTON Simon’s repeated viewings of todays film have him constantly hoping for a new ending. Mikey’s first time viewing todays film will have him find out why. Its Tony Scott’s 2004 action thriller Man on Fire with the powerhouse himself Denzel Washington. It should be clear to everyone by now, don’t fuck with Dakota Fanning. I’LL NEVER BE TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT! Mikey knew exactly what needed to be done this week. For too long Simon’s days had passed without the experience of 1987’s Lethal Weapon in his life but today that all changes. Richard Donner’s buddy cop masterpiece still holds up so let’s find out what the boy’s had to say. What film would you have picked for L? @bondingtimepod on Facebook, Instagram, X & Letterboxd! IT’S THE 80’S WHERE EVERYONE KNOWS KARATE! Simon introduces Mikey to where it all started, long before Cobra Kai, long before Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith, their was 1984’s The Karate Kid directed by John G Avildsen. A simpler time where if you were being bullied you didn’t need social media or guns, you just needed Karate! THIS MOVIE IS SO STUPID! IT’S PERFECT Mikey’s choice this week is for the letter J. Even though it’s back to back comedies, he couldn’t help himself from showing Simon 1979’s The Jerk directed by Carl Reiner. Steve Martin’s first venture into film wasn’t only a critical success but a box office success too and we talk about why.
