As Stasia says, she lives by a set of values and makes her life choices based on these values – doing no harm – and in doing so, she’s living simply as well as on her own terms. It was my intention to highlight...

Today’s guest is Liz Grantham. Liz is the founder of The Optimal Me, a fitness app created specifically for those over 50 and it focuses on getting people functionally fit with exercises that take just 15 minutes a day. Liz and I dive deep into the importance of movement as we age. And not just moving (like me, with running) but by doing exercises that help with every day movement--like lifting your luggage into the overhead bin of a flight. As Liz points out, 2.8 million people die each year from obesity. 2.8 million! But no one is talking about that (likely because it’s not contagious)....

I had really wanted to chat with Jen in-person. And we had hoped to do so when she was scheduled to be in Seattle on a book tour in June. But that all went sideways when travel (and pretty much everything else) was grounded. So we decided to chat remotely instead. And I’m so glad we did. You might know...
info_outlineToday’s conversation is with Sharon Wood.
Sharon is very unassuming (as Canadians tend to be) yet she has accomplished something pretty incredible.
Sharon was not only the first North American woman to summit Mt. Everest but she did it on the West Ridge route.
The first thing that’s notable about that, is that this is a route that has never been successfully summitted since. And that was 34 years ago when Sharon was 29. But what is also notable is that she and her group attempted their summit bid without Sherpas – meaning they were on that mountain carrying all their own gear, fixing all their own ropes without support.
When you consider how the mountain is being climbed today, you can imagine how incredibly difficult that must have been.
But Sharon’s story starts at age 16 when she left home to find adventure in the mountains. And, really, she’s never looked back.
Sharon has a new book out called Rising: Becoming the First North American Woman on Everest. And she’s had these years to reflect on that experience and also see how summiting the planet’s tallest mountain has changed in the decades since her summit.
In our conversation, we not only talk about what led up to her summit bid but the experience itself as well as what she calls the “aftermath” that occurred post-summit.
I just know you’re going to love this conversation with Sharon Wood.
