Professor Paul Gilbert is Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Derby and Visiting Professor at the University of Queensland. He founded and developed Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and established the Compassionate Mind Foundation which supports thousands of clinicians around the world to develop, practice and promote CFT.
Professor Gilbert as spent decades researching evolutionary approaches to mental health alongside working as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the NHS. He has over 300 publications including 22 books.
In his conversation with Dr Julian Abel, they talk about the Buddhist view of consciousness and compassion, the development of CFT, evolutionary theories of mental health, societal shifts from 'hold and control' to 'care and share', and much, much more.
