The Naked Truth With Claire Jefford

In this solo episode, I review a previous client project to share CLAIRE-ITY.  These Burlington clients were busy working professionals with 2 young children. They were fabulous to work with and were interested in having me put everything together for their quaint sitting room.  Although the project went very well overall, the biggest lesson I learned was that it’s okay (in certain situations only!) to bend your processes a little, as needed. You have to go with your gut and look at the whole picture, to determine when this is okay.  No ‘red flags’ here, just a great...

The Naked Truth With Claire Jefford

In this solo episode, I review a previous client project to share CLAIRE-ITY.  These Burlington clients were busy working professionals with 2 young children. They were fabulous to work with and did not have the time or energy to take on a custom living room redesign project on their own. They told me that they did not know where to start and the idea of doing this on their own was very overwhelming for them both.  Although the project went very well overall and it was beautiful to photograph for my portfolio, there were some key takeaways that I learned and I am sharing here with...

Building solid relationships with our trades is essential for running a successful Interior Design business. Unfortunately, as Interior designers we generally have a reputation of either being too demanding and controlling or uneducated and inexperienced -or both!

Conversely, as Design professionals, we feel that contractors and trades typically do not welcome us onto a project nor our creative ideas for design. It can also be a concern for a designer that if they are not overseeing every step of the project, then original design plans may be altered and sometimes trades may even try to squeeze the designer out of the project completely.

These are valid concerns for both parties and today Claire sits down with two of her contractors for the second time to have a more casual conversation to discuss The Naked Truth on this extremely important topic. Working collaboratively and having a mutually, respectful working relationship is mandatory for everyone to show solidarity and work as a team.
