The 14th Amendment: A Struggle to Bring about Equality and Justice

Sheryll Cashin, professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center, discusses her recent biography, The Agitator's Daughter: A Memoir of Four Generations of One Extraordinary African American Family. Cashin highlights the ongoing challenges of the 14th Amendment and the view of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall that the original Constitution was a flawed document, which led to a crisis requiring a civil war and passage of the 13th and 15th amendments.
