Rintu Thomas - Award Winning Woman Film Director

Welcome to the 15th episode of the Dream Malayalam Podcast. In this episode, I am chatting with a very accomplished and award winning woman film director - Rintu Thomas.

Rintu Thomas is an independent documentary director-producer who has her roots in Kerala. She is the co-founder of Black Ticket Films, an award-winning creative agency based in New Delhi. She is a coveted recipient of numerous awards, including the President’s Medal in India. President's Medal is the highest honour given to filmmakers in India.

Recently, her movie "Writing with Fire" won many international accolades. Writing With Fire is the only Asian film to be selected for its world premiere in World Cinema Documentary Competition at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

What sets Rintu apart is her special ability to create films that has the power to create social change. She is a story teller at heart. This skill has helped her to convey the life stories of many under privileged sections of the society. She has been able to create positive social impact using her films.

For more than ten years, her films on the topic of women's rights, sustainability, environment, public health, climate change and many more socially relevant topics have created material changes in the society. These films are included in the curriculum of global universities and showcased at global forums like the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
