Episode Notes: What you will learn from this episode:

  • What is the state of physiotherapy today and where should we be heading?

  • What are the challenges that we face in embracing a whole-person approach?

  • What does the term central sensitization mean and how can we incorporate strategies into our pelvic health plan of care for clients to help them retrain a sensitive nervous system?

  • How do bladder urgency/Overactive Bladder Syndrome  and IBS fit with a sensitive nervous system?

  • It's not enough to implement strategies to calm the nervous system, we need to phenotype what is going on through a series of questionnaires (SADD-CLIFFS) and base our strategies on the clients self reported answers.

  • How does using a Biopsychosocial Approach complement pelvic health and healing and overcoming persistent pain?

To truly help the patient in front of us with low back pain and pelvic health complaints, what are the skills that we need to develop in order to be effective clinicians (breaking down the silos between orthopedics, pelvic health, pain science and lifestyle interventions)

  • Takeaways for listeners

  • Change is hard but non-negotiable….

  • We have to move beyond “paying lip service” to the biopsychosocial approach and really engage with this practice.

  • 2023 is the year of change for clinicians.

  • Embrace it!  You will love it, your patients will love it
