POLESTAR 2 EPA RANGE RATING

"The official range rating for the 2021 Polestar 2 is 233 miles (375 km), using a 78 kWh battery, which is far below our expectations." says InsideEVs: "Several months ago, Polestar's website showed a target of 275 miles (442 km), while the European WLTP rating was 470 km (292 miles). As we can see, the final EPA result is 20% lower than the WLTP."

 

Bjorn Nyland published his Polestar 2 range test on 21st August.  18 degrees c, 19" tyres. 90kmh it went 270 miles/435km (vs Model 3 Perf on 18" tyres 324miles/521km). 75mph/120kmh it did 305km/189 miles (vs Model 3 Perf 243 miles/391 km). Estimated net capacity 72.8kWh.

POLESTAR 2 RECALL FOR EUROPE WON'T AFFECT US CARS

"Polestar 2 electric cars sold in China and Europe are being recalled due to an issue that could cause affected cars to shut off and be unable to restart. The recall does not affect any cars in North America." says Green Car Reports: "After customers reported the issue, the electrified brand from Volvo Cars and Geely started a recall of roughly 2,200 cars currently in customer hands. United States deliveries hadn't quite started yet, and that cars for this market will be given a software update prior to delivery to correct the problem."

 

Polestar said: ""We issued a voluntary safety recall for Polestar 2 after we investigated, verified and developed a solution for an issue reported by a small number of customers"

MERCEDES-BENZ EQE AND EQS CONFIRMED

"The three new EQ models, confirmed by Mercedes in an investor conference on Tuesday, have been conceived around the German manufacturer's dedicated Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA). This is the structure that underpins the upcoming EQS luxury saloon, which is currently undergoing the final phase of development ahead of a planned UK introduction during the second half of 2021" writes Autocar: "During the investor conference, Mercedes released a marketing video of prototype versions of the EQS saloon, EQE saloon and EQS SUV undergoing testing in the Black Forest region of Germany. In the video , Mercedes' vice president of electric vehicle architecture and EQ vehicles, Christoph Starzynski, described the EQE saloon, which is planned for launch in 2022, as a “business limousine of the future” that's “slightly smaller than the EQS”. Mercedes says its new entry level EQ model, the GLA-based EQA, is planned to make production before the end of the year. "

EXTREME E'S SIX-DAY SHAKEDOWN TEST

"A number of high profile drivers from seemingly every walk of motorsport life dipped their toes into the Extreme E pool recently in the series’ first six-day open test. Drivers from sports cars, Formula One, Formula E, and World Rally were on hand to test the new Spark Technologies Odyssey 21 E-SUV chassis and motor setup. The list of drivers was largely kept quiet, but we know Mercedes F1 number two Valtteri Bottas was among them." reports Jalopnik: "reports indicating some WRC and FIA World RallyX drivers took part. Among the drivers we do know participated were series co-founder/team owner and former Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne, as well as double-amputee Billy Monger, and confirmed Andretti/United Autosport driver Timmy Hansen."

TESLA FINALLY LAUNCHES TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION

"Tesla has finally launched its two-factor authentication feature to better secure customer accounts." says Electrek: "Musk has been talking about Tesla implementing two-factor authentication in order to secure accounts. Earlier this year, the CEO said that Tesla is going to soon push two-factor authentication after an ’embarrassing delay,’. A few months later, Tesla has now officially released its two-factor authentication feature to owners."

 

User Haggy online explains more: "Once you set it up, both the app and web access will need the code. But you can also add a second device. If you have multiple drivers or devices, when it asks for the code, it will ask you which of your devices you want to get the code from. That's good, but if you have more than two drivers, then you will need to set up MFA for each one with a different email address. I tried that for my wife, and was able to authorize that email address for each car, but I couldn't find a way to do it for the Powerwall. So I set it back to my email address, which is now safer to share since there's MFA. It's also a PITA the way they implemented it, because many sites require the code but let you register the computer, and then don't prompt you again for a period of time if you elect that. Tesla doesn't seem to allow that."

TESLA MODEL S PLAID WILL USE 4680 BATTERY CELLS WITH STRUCTURAL PACK

"During Battery Day, Tesla unveiled a completely new structural battery pack consisting of new 4680 lithium-ion tabless cells. It also unveiled the new Model S Plaid, which the company's CEO Elon Musk has been talking about for a long time. And now we know that the new Model S Plaid will feature the all-new structural battery pack." says Tesmanian: "520+ miles range, 1100 horsepower, acceleration from 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds, and top speed of 200 mph. The new type of 4680 lithium-ion cells will have five times more energy, 16% more range, and six times more power. In addition, the cells will be packaged in a new way within the car. Tesla will use its structural approach to integrate cells into the vehicle's structure."

LUCID MOTORS OPENS STUDIO & SERVICE CENTER IN BEVERLY HILLS

Lucid Motors today announced the opening of its Beverly Hills Studio & service center, representing the company’s second retail location and one of 20 Lucid Studios that will open throughout North America by the end of 2021. Having recently unveiled the Lucid Air Dream Edition, production of which will start in Spring of 2021, that car takes center stage at the Beverly Hills Studio.

Lucid’s Virtual Reality Experience combines the physical and virtual worlds with a vehicle interior model that enables customers to explore the Lucid Air inside and out. This is done via a 4K VR configurator that allows them to seamlessly finalize everything from interior finishes and materials to exterior color.
